Wipster's All-new Unlimited Storage Plan

Joyful review and approval tool goes unlimited

Wipster recently announced a new - and unprecedented - feature that redefines the very space they helped to create. Wipster, for the uninitiated, is a video review and approval tool. Over time, however, that definition has grown, morphed and become a tool that places the platform squarely at the forefront of how video is produced, stored, and shared online. Instead of basing fees entirely upon storage space used, Wipster members on any of their pricing plans can now store unlimited video files on the platform, forever.

Wipster isn't the first player in tech to make a move such as this one. Wipster notes that Google Photos launched their own unlimited photo storage in mid-2015, and their CEO Rollo Wenlock explains the company's inspiration for this change: “Data storage was previously so expensive that it led to very tiered pricing models. Companies would impose limitations in order to upsell customers to the next tier and did very well off the back of it. But the truth is, those traditional pricing structures no longer reflect the actual cost of data storage.”

“And happily, there’s now a move towards removing these barriers. Value is now based on how easy and pleasant a product makes your life – customers should never be held back by how many files they can store at a certain price.”

The reality is that many services have started moving in this direction, putting the emphasis on building a membership base over worrying users over how much content they need to have online.

The reality is that smaller producers creating a living based on volume may have far more need for storage than more established companies. With cameras as inexpensive as a GoPro HERO 4 Black or a DJI Phantom 3 Professional drone shooting in 4K, the storage requirement parity between small freelance operations and large studios has become closer than ever.

With small production budgets getting smaller and the cutthroat freelance market racing to the bottom, changes such as the one made by Wipster are very welcome. All of a sudden, the tools are no longer a bottleneck. Creators can focus on creating and defining an efficient workflow, not which clips they can afford to share.

Wenlock says ultimately this feature is about freedom: “Since our launch, we’ve been freeing video producers up from the admin that their jobs require so they can spend more time making fantastic videos. First, it was smoothing out the review-and-approval process, then we added unlimited versions, so that producers were never held back from refining and improving their work.”

“With this move, we’re making it even easier to do everything on Wipster – no more storing raw footage in one place, drafts in another and the final video someplace else – it’s all in one place, which streamlines your workflow and radically increases productivity.”

Wipster's big announcement is supported by a beautiful 90-second video that explains the new features and showcases Wellington, New Zealand, birthplace of Wipster. The video reminds us of the successful video background Wenlock and Co.

built before starting Wipster.
