How to Access Outlook.com Email With Apple Mail

With a free Outlook.com web-based email account, access your email, calendar, tasks, and contacts from anywhere you have an internet connection. But if you'd prefer to use the power and flexibility of Apple's Mail application, you can access your Outlook.com email right from Apple Mail and get the best of both worlds.

Here's how to access your Outlook.com email from Apple Mail on a Mac or on an iOS mobile device.

The information in this article applies to Outlook.com webmail and Apple Mail for macOS Sierra and above, or Apple Mail on a device with iOS 13 and above.

Access Outlook.com With Apple Mail on the Desktop

Here's how to configure Apple Mail to connect to Outlook.com on a Mac.

  1. Open Mail and select Mail > Add Account from the menu.

  2. Select Other Mail Account and then select Continue.

  3. Enter your name, email address, and account password.

  4. Select Sign In.

  5. Apple Mail should automatically fill in IMAP as Outlook.com's Account Type, along with the incoming and outgoing server addresses.

    If you have to type in the information manually, select IMAP. For the Incoming Mail Server, enter imap-mail.outlook.com. For the Outgoing Mail Server, enter smtp-mail.outlook.com.

  6. Select Sign In again.

  7. Select Next.

  8. Select the apps you want to use with this account. Make sure to check Mail.

  9. Select Done. Your Outlook.com mail will now be accessible from your list of Mailboxes.
