Wikibuy is an extension that you can add to your web browser to help save you money when you shop online by automatically searching for coupon codes. If you like saving money online, but you hate manually entering codes from sites like RetailMeNot, Wikibuy takes all the hassle out of the couponing process.

How Does the Wikibuy Coupon Extension Work?

instructions showing how to use the wikibuy extension
With Wikibuy installed, all you need to do is click the extension icon to search for coupon codes.

When you install Wikibuy for your favorite web browser, you'll notice a new little icon in the add-ons or extensions area of the browser window. You can click this icon whenever you're checking out on your favorite shopping sites, and it will automatically look for valid coupon codes.

If Wikibuy finds any working coupon codes, it is also capable of entering them automatically. All you need to do is click a button, and the extension finds and enters any valid codes that it has access to.

Here are the basic steps involved in using Wikibuy:

  1. Shop on any of your favorite websites, and start the checkout process.
  2. On the cart or checkout page, click the Wikibuy icon that's located in the extensions or add-ons section of your web browser.
  3. Click Try Codes.
  4. Click Continue to Checkout.
  5. If Wikibuy discovers any valid codes, you will see the savings reflected in your shopping cart.

Some sites have partnered with Wikibuy to offer Wikibuy Credits. When you visit one of these websites and click the Wikibuy extension icon in your browser, you will see a notification that says you can get some percentage of your purchase back. If you click OK, you will receive Wikibuy Credits that you can use later to purchase products through the Wikibuy site.

What We Like

  • Very easy to install and use.

  • When it works, it's basically free money for very little effort.

  • Free or reduced-price items through the Wikibuy store if you use the extension a lot.

  • Seems to find more coupons, more often, than competing extensions.

What We Don't Like

  • It isn't available for as many web browsers as some competing extensions.

  • The price comparison feature isn't always accurate and sometimes pulls up inaccurate listings on sites like eBay.

  • When it isn't able to find any coupons, it can feel like a waste of time.

Where Is Wikibuy Available?

Wikibuy is available as an extension for the most popular web browsers, including Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari. There is also an associated iPhone app that uses augmented reality to show you how products like kitchen appliances would look and fit in your home.

You can use Wikibuy on thousands of popular online shopping sites, and if you link a credit or debit card to your account, you can even earn Wikibuy Credits when you shop at participating merchants in your local area. For instance, you may be able to earn credits on the Wikibuy store when you eat out at some of your favorite restaurants.

Check out Wikibuy's full list of participating online stores and local merchants to see if any of your favorites are there.

Since Wikibuy is just a browser extension, you can completely remove it very easily.

Uninstalling Wikibuy is even easier if you decide that you don't want it. Since it's just a browser extension, there is no real uninstallation process to go through. All you have to do is open the add-ons or extensions management page in your web browser and remove the extension.

To uninstall Wikibuy:

  1. Navigate to the extensions or add-ons management section of your web browser.
  2. Locate the Wikibuy extension and click Remove or Uninstall.
  3. If prompted to confirm the removal, click Yes or Okay.

That's it. Wikibuy will be totally gone, and you can move on to a different couponing app or reinstall Wikibuy any time you like.

Is Wikibuy Safe?

Browser extensions can track personal data, and even include malware, so it's important to be careful about which ones you choose to install. Wikibuy, in particular, is perfectly safe, but some people may still be uncomfortable with the amount of information that it records and stores.

When you install Wikibuy, you grant the extension permission to record specific information about you, your browsing habits, and your online purchases, and transmit that back to the Wikibuy servers.

The reason Wikibuy tracks this information is that it needs to know when you're checking out on an online shopping site in order to look for coupons, and it needs to know what purchases you make in order to provide you with Wikibuy Credits.

If you aren't comfortable with Wikibuy tracking and recording your browsing and shopping online, then you may prefer to use a manual coupon site like RetailMeNot.

Tips to Keep in Mind When Using the Wikibuy Coupon App

  • Use price tracking to get the best deals possible: Wikibuy can track the prices of products, and even track airfare price changes. If you don't need to buy right away, track the price instead and you'll be ready to strike while the iron is hot.
  • Check out the price comparison feature: When you find a deal on Amazon, use Wikibuy to quickly check if the same item is cheaper from another online store.
  • Carefully double check price comparison deals: The price comparison feature is a great way to save money, but don't blindly purchase any recommended deal. Make sure that any alternate listing on a site like eBay is for the exact same product that you were originally shopping for on Amazon.
  • Take advantage of Wikibuy Credits: If you use Wikibuy a lot, make sure to always to click OK on the Wikibuy Credits notification when shopping on sites like Walmart and Macy's. You can use the credits to score free stuff through Wikibuy.
  • Use the companion app to see how products would look in your home: If you have an iPhone or iPad, you can use the companion Wikibuy app to check out how appliances and other items would look in your home thanks to augmented reality.

    Wikibuy Coupon App Competitors

Wikibuy is one of the best coupon apps out there, and it's pretty good at finding valid codes, but it faces fierce competition from similar apps and websites.

Here are Wikibuy's main competitors that are worth checking out if you're really into saving money when you shop online:

    • Honey - This is Wikibuy's biggest competitor since they are both browser extensions that perform the same basic function. In addition to finding and applying coupons, Honey also offers cash back from some online stores through their HoneyGold program.
    • The Camelizer - This browser extension can also help you spot deals, but it doesn't work the same way as Wikibuy and Honey. It functions as a front end for the CamelCamelCamel site, which specializes in helping you find deals on Amazon.
    • RetailMeNot - For savvy shoppers who prefer to sift through deals manually, this is one of the oldest and most established couponing sites online.
    • Dealspotr - This is another couponing site, but it uses a crowd-sourced database of coupons and promises more valid codes than other sites.

What Is the Wikibuy iOS App?

The Wikibuy iOS app lets you find deals on products and actually see what they would look like in your home. Wikibuy

Wikibuy is most well known for its browser extension, but there is also a companion app that you can use if you have an iPhone or an iPad. This app isn't available for Android, or any other platforms, and it doesn't work the same way as the Wikibuy browser extension.

The way the app works is that you can use it to search for products or scan barcodes while you're out shopping at physical stores. The app is then able to pull up deals from popular retailers like Walmart, Target, Ebay, and many others to show you the best price available.

When you find a product, and a deal, that you're interested in, you need to provide your credit card details to Wikibuy. The app then acts as a middleman and places an order with the retailer.

If you prefer to order directly from the retailer, then you need to use a web browser with the Wikibuy extension.

What Is the Wikibuy Augmented Reality Feature?

The Wikibuy iOS app uses augmented reality to show how products will look in your home. Wikibuy

The augmented reality feature is only available in the Wikibuy iOS app, not the browser extension. This feature lets you see exactly what a product might look like in your house, including realistic sizing and colors.

The way it works is that it uses the camera on your iPhone or iPad and superimposes a 3D model of the product that you're interested in. This can help you get an idea of whether an appliance would actually fit on your counter, or what color option to go with.
