In addition to many of your favorite classic sitcoms, the service also includes brand new original content connected to beloved properties like Saved By the Bell and Battlestar Galactica. What is NBCUniversal's Peacock? Peacock is NBCUniversal's ad and subscription-based streaming service that's meant to serve as a direct competitor to Netflix. The service is similar to Netflix at a basic level, in that it allows you to stream movies and TV shows to your computer, streaming device, game console, or smart television. While NBCUniversal owns NBC and other networks, you don't need a cable subscription to access Peacock. The main difference between Peacock and Netflix is that Netflix has a much larger library of shows and movies. Netflix is one of the original players in the online streaming game, and it has a massive library of original and licensed content. It has lost some of that content to competing services like Disney+, but Netflix has a massive content budget dedicated to creating and licensing new content. Like Disney+, NBCUniversal has a long history of licensing content to services like Hulu and Netflix. And just like Disney removed its content from Netflix in favor of Disney+, NBCUniversal has claimed many of its most popular shows, like The Office and Parks and Recreation, for Peacock. How to Sign Up For Peacock You can sign up by visiting the Peacock website, where you can sign up for free. You don't need a subscription for Peacock; the basic streaming service plan is supported by ads. You can upgrade to Peacock Premium to access more content (every season of popular shows, live sports, and more), or Peacock Premium Plus to get rid of ads. What Content Can You Watch on Peacock? Peacock is the exclusive streaming home to a library of TV shows from NBCUniversal's numerous broadcast and cable networks, movies from Dreamworks, Universal Pictures, and Focus Features, and brand new content that isn't available anywhere else. Mark Sullivan/WireImage/Getty Images If you enjoyed the 2004 NBCUniversal series Battlestar Galactica, you may want to consider trying out Peacock. A brand new Battlestar Galactica series, from the creator of Mr. Robot, is available exclusively on Peacock. The Office could also see a reboot on the service. Other beloved properties revived by Peacock include Saved By the Bell, with Mario Lopez and Elizabeth Berkley reprising their roles, and Punky Brewster, with Soleil Moon Frye back in the eponymous role. In addition to brand new content, Peacock is also the only place to watch old favorites like The Office, Parks and Recreation, Cheers, Frasier, Monk, Psych, and more, with additional shows making the switch as old contracts with other streaming services expire. All told, the service offers more than 15,000 hours of streaming video content, with more coming all the time. Is Peacock Connected to Hulu? NBCUniversal owns about a third of Hulu, while Disney owns a majority stake in that streaming service. This creates a bit of a complicated situation, since NBCUniversal and Disney are competitors, and Disney even has its own Disney+ streaming service. While some NBCUniversal content appears on Hulu, there's no connection between Peacock and Hulu. Disney is responsible for running Hulu, as the majority owner, and Hulu operates as a sister streaming service to Disney+. How to Watch Peacock The primary way to watch Peacock is through NBCUniversal's Peacock website, which provides viewers with a streaming video player that works with most modern browsers. The experience is similar to other streaming services like Hulu and Netflix. Courtesy NBCUniversal Peacock looks and works much the same as other streaming services. The streaming library includes standard categories, like TV shows, movies, and original content, all of which are available to stream on-demand. Can You Watch Peacock on Mobile Devices and Televisions? In addition to watching on your computer, you can download an app to stream Peacock on a variety of other devices. The Peacock app is compatible with smartphones, tablets, and some streaming devices. It's also compatible with some smart televisions and game consoles.
