Here is a dual view of the main unit of the VHT215. At the top of the photo is the sound bar portion of the VHT215 system, and the bottom photo shows what the sound bar looks like from the rear.

The sound bar dimensions are 40.1 inches (W), 4.1-inches (H), and 2.1-inches (D) with without the attached stands. If using the stands in a table top placement, this adds about 1 inch to the height. The stands can also be repositioned for wall mounting, and wall mounting hardware, along with template guide is provided for that purpose.

Being the speaker grill, the sound bar houses a total of six speakers, that includes two midrange and one tweeter grouping for each of the left and right channels. The frequency range of the sound bar unit is stated as 150Hz to 20kHz.

Also, there is an LED status display in the center of the sound bar, and above that there is a set onboard power, input select, and volume buttons.

Moving to the bottom photo, you can see the rear of the soundbar unit, which includes analog and digital audio connections, two HDMI inputs and one output, and a receptacle for the detachable power supply.

For a closer look at the controls and connections provided on the VHT215's sound bar unit, proceed through the next three photos.

Here is a look at the onboard controls on the top of the sound bar unit of the Vizio VHT215 2.1 Channel Home Theater System.

On the left side is the power button, and on the right side are the input select and volume up and down controls.

One thing to point out is that all these buttons are also duplicated on the provided wireless remote control. In addition, in a darkened room, these buttons are very difficult to see.

Shown on this page are the analog-only input connections provided with the VHT215 system, which located slightly right of center of the sound bar unit's rear panel.

On the left side of the photo, from top to bottom are a Digital Optical, Digital Coaxial, and analog audio (3.5mm) audio-only inputs.

These inputs can be used to connect audio from sources, such DVD players, cable boxes, etc... that have these types of connections. Also, the 3.5mm analog audio input can be used to connect digital audio players, or even home CD players and cassette decks via a stereo RCA to 3.5mm adapter cable. Both 3.5mm-to-3.5mm and an RCA-to-3.5mm adapter cable are provided with the Vizio VHT215 system.

The other items shown in this photo are the Client/HUB switch (should be set to HUB). In HUB mode, the sound bar can communicate with the subwoofer. The Client mode is reserved for setups that incorporate additional Vizio HD Wireless audio components. Refer to user setup instructions for those additional products or contact Vizio customer support if you encounter this situation.

The remaining item shown in this photo is the receptacle where you plug in the detachable power supply.

Here a close-up look at the other group of connections located just right of center on the rear panel of the VHT215 sound bar unit.

As you can see, there are two HDMI inputs and one HDMI output. This is where you connect your HDMI-enabled source devices.

Although the VHT215 does not process video, it passes all video signals through the sound bar and to the output, making the connection between your source device, the sound bar unit, and your TV very easy. The two HDMI inputs are also 3D pass-through and CEC control compatible, and the HDMI output also supports the Audio Return Channel (ARC) function, which eliminates the need to connect a separate audio output from the TV to the VHT215.

Vizio VHT215 2.1 Channel Home Theater System - Wireless Sub - Front/Rear View

Shown on this page is both a view of the front and back of the wireless subwoofer that is provided with the Vizio VHT215 2.1 channel home theater system.

The subwoofer has a black glossy finish on the front and rear and has grill cloth on each side. The high gloss finish makes it very difficult to photograph without the gloss finish producing unwanted reflections. However, that being said, inside the subwoofer is a 6.5-inch driver that has a frequency range of 40Hz to 150Hz.

Also, as you can see in the photo of the back portion of the subwoofer, there is an On/Off power switch and attached power cord, but there are no audio input connections or adjustment controls. The reason for this is that the subwoofer receives both its audio input and control setting signals wirelessly (using the 2.4GHz band) from the VHT215 sound bar unit. Wireless communication range between the sound bar and subwoofer units is up to 60 feet (line of sight required).

Also, it is important to note that this subwoofer will only work with the VHT215 sound bar unit or other sound bar units designated by Vizio.

On the top of the remote are the Power On and Volume increase buttons, and below that are the input select and Volume decrease buttons.

In the center of the remote is the Mute button.

Moving down to the remote's slide out drawer are controls for Subwoofer volume, Bass, Treble, SRS TruVolume (on/off), TruSurround HD (on/off), and SRS WOW HD, Input select, and Digital optical/coaxial input select switch.

Final Take

As you can see from this photo profile, the Vizio VHT215 only consists of two sections, one of which is a wireless subwoofer, making it easy to set up and install.

This system is designed to provide better sound for your TV viewing experience, and also a central hub for connecting your components together, without the need for a more complicated home theater setup. The design and size of the soundbar make it easy to place either above or below a TV and complements TVs with 37 to 47-inch screen sizes very well.
