The Vizio S4251w-B4 combines a 42-inch sound bar with a wireless subwoofer and two compact surround speakers, bringing the convenience of the sound bar option with the benefits of more traditional multi-speaker surround sound system, with less wire clutter.

To start off this look at the S4251w-B4 is a photo of the entire system with its included accessories.

Starting at the top is the Sound Bar unit that is provided with the system.

Sitting under the sound bar unit is the wireless subwoofer (which is mostly obscured by the accessories box - but will be shown fully later in this profile).

Sitting on the shelf, starting from the left side is the left surround channel speaker.

Next is the box containing the additionally supplied accessories (more details in the next photo), followed on the right side with the right surround channel speaker.

Here is a close-up view of the accessories that come packaged with the S4251w-B4 system.

Starting on the back left is the Quick Start Guide and Sound Bar Wall Mounting Template (wall mounting is optional - the sound bar can also be placed on a flat surface).

Back to the left side, just below the Quick Start Guide is the wall mounting hardware, following on the right (just below the wall mounting template) the provided wireless remote control and two batteries.

Moving back to the left, in front, in the first inset, are the speaker cables for the left and right surround speakers and power detachable power cord for the wireless subwoofer.

In the center inset is a digital coaxial audio cable, detachable power cord, and analog stereo cables for connection the sound bar unit.

Finally, on the right inset is a digital optical audio cable, 4 velcro cable ties, and a plastic cable management tie.

Unless you need long cables, Vizio has supplied everything you need to get going.

Here is a photo of the sound bar unit provided for the S4251w-B4 showing both the front and rear views.

At the top of the photo is the front view of the sound bar and the bottom photo shows what the sound bar looks like from the rear.

Besides the speaker grill covering the entire front of the sound bar, on the bottom left is are series of indicator light for volume, input, and function selection (not very visible as the unit is turned off in this photo).

The bulk of rear of the sound bar unit is empty, save for ventilation holes, but on the bottom right side is the power receptacle, and on the far right side are the audio input connections and onboard controls.

Inside the sound bar cabinet is a three-channel speaker system (Left, Center, Right). The speaker complement includes a 3-inch Midrange and 3/4-inch Tweeter each for Left and Right channels. Two 2 1/2-inch full range speakers for the Center channel.

No power output information is provided for the Sound Bar unit, but frequency response is listed as 90Hz to 20kHz.

The sound bar also provides sound decoding and processing for Dolby Digital, DTS, DTS TruVolume, DTS Circle Surround.

Wireless Bluetooth for built-in access of audio content from compatible portable devices included.

There is also a wireless transmitter built-in for sending signals to the subwoofer/surround speaker portion of the system. The transmitter utilizes the 2.4 GHz band and has a line-of-sight range of up to 60ft.

The sound bar dimensions are 42.32-inches (W) x 3.74-inches (H) x 3.15-inches (D), and the unit weighs 16.1 lbs.

Here is a look at the onboard controls of the S4251w-B4, which are located on the far right side of the sound bar rear panel (or just behind the sound bar's left side is reach from the front of the sound bar).

As you can see, starting on top is the power button, followed by the input select, Bluetooth input, and volume up and down.

Shown on this page are the connections on the rear panel of the Vizio S4251w-B4 sound bar unit.

Starting on the left is a USB port (USB 5) for access to audio content stored on compatible USB devices, such as a flash drive.

Next is a Digital Optical Input (Optical 4) that can be used to connect a digital optical output from a Blu-ray Disc/DVD player or other device that offers a digital optical output.

Just to the right of the digital optical input is a Digital Coaxial (Optical 3)audio input (normally this would not be colored yellow as that is usually used to designate a composite video connection, but since there are no video connections on the S4251, this is not an issue).

Continuing to the right is a 3.5mm analog audio connection (Aux 2) to make it easier to plug portable audio playback devices, while on the far right is a set of standard left/right RCA analog analog stereo input connections (Aux 1) that can accommodate standard audio source devices, such as a CD player, or an analog audio output option from a TV, DVD player, or cable box/satellite box.

The wireless subwoofer has a bass reflex design composed of 6-inch side firing driver, supported by a front mounted port. The built-in amplifier is rated at 60 Watts. The stated frequency response is 40Hz to 90Hz.

The subwoofer receives both the bass (LFE) and the surround channel audio signals wirelessly from the sound bar unit, so there are also outputs provided on the subwoofer for connection of the surround speakers. The Subwoofer can be positioned up to 60 feet (line-of-sight) from the sound bar.

The subwoofer dimensions are 6.93 inches W x 12.52 inches H x 15.86 inches D, it weighs 9.8 pounds.

Here is a photo of the wireless remote control provided with the Vizio S4251w-B4.

On the top of the remote is a small LCD Display. This LCD screen displays the input selections, sound options, and volume status selected by the user.

Just below the LCD display are the Input Select, Menu Access, and Power On buttons.

In the center of the remote are the menu navigation, as well as play/pause, and next/previous track controls (when playing back USB sources). Also, play/pause and next/previous track control also pull double duty for changing the systems audio settings.

Below the menu navigation and playback controls (from left to right) are the Volume Down (-), Mute, and Volume Up (+) buttons.

As you can see, the remote is very compact and the inclusion of the LCD display is a nice touch. However, for those that use reading glasses, the display is still quite small to see.

The S4251w-B4 comes with everything you need to get going, is easy to use, and provides a surprisingly good listening experience for both music and movies, especially considering its modest price.

Combining the convenience of a sound bar with an innovative way to provide surround speakers without long speaker wire clutter, the Vizio S4251w-B4 is definitely worth consideration if you are looking for an affordable, uncomplicated way to bring great sound to your TV or music listening experience.
