To start off this photo look at the Vizio E420i Smart LED/LCD TV is a front view of the set. The TV is shown here with an actual image. The photo has been brightness and contrast adjusted slightly in order to make the TV's black bezel more visible for this photo presentation.

There is a set of controls located on the left side, behind the screen (will be shown and explained later in this profile). The controls are also duplicated on the wireless remote control, which we will also take a look at later in this profile.

Here is a look at the horizontally placed connections on the Vizio E420i.

Starting from the left of this photo and working left is a wired LAN (Ethernet). It is important to note that the E420i also has built-in Wifi, but if you don't have access to a Wireless router or your wireless connection is unstable, you can connect an Ethernet cable to the LAN port for connection to a home network and the internet.

Moving right is the combined Component (Green, Blue, Red) and Composite Video inputs, along with associated analog stereo audio inputs.

Finally, on the far right is Ant/Cable RF input connection for receiving over-the-air HDTV or unscrambled digital cable signals.

It is important to note that unlike some TVs, the E420i does not have a PC-in or VGA. If you want to connect your PC or Laptop to the E420i, it must have either an HDMI output or a DVI-Output that can be used with a DVI-to-HDMI adapter.

Here is a look at the three pages of the Picture Settings Menu (click on the photo for a larger, more legible, view. Starting on the top left are the basic settings:

Picture Mode - Vivid (provides a brighter, more color saturated picture, better suited to brightly lit rooms), Standard (provides a preset color, contrast, and brightness setting more suitable to normal viewing conditions), Movie (provides a picture with decreased contrast, for use in dimly-lit or dark rooms), Game (optimizes color and contrast for video games), Football, Golf, Basketball, and Baseball provides color and contrast settings are "suited" for each of those sports (frankly, I didn't find the differences between these sports settings that useful), and Custom (allows the user to set their own preferred video settings - backlight, contrast, brightness, color, tint, sharpness).

Moving to page 2 (the middle photo) of the Picture Settings menu are:

Size and Position: Allows the user to adjust the height and width of the displayed image - as well as both the horizontal and vertical position of the image.

Color Temperature: Provide further settings for optimized color accuracy. Includes both color temperature presets: Cool, Computer, Normal (slightly warm), as well as custom settings that provide both gains and offset adjustments for Red, Green, and Blue.

Advanced Picture: Takes the user to additional sub-menus that provide more extensive, and precise, picture adjustments, shown on the right side of this photo. These settings allow further fine tuning video signal sources. These settings (shown in the left photo of this montage) include:

Noise Reduction provides a way to reduce the effects of video noise that may be present in a video source, such as television broadcast, DVD, or Blu-ray disc. However, when using this control to reduce noise, you may find other artifacts, such as harshness and a "pasty" appearance on flesh may increase.

MPEG Noise Reductions Aids in reducing noise and pixelation artifacts from MPEG video files (such as from flash drives or Internet-based content).

Color Enhancement Adjusts color saturation of specific colors in relation to flesh tones.

Adaptive Luma Adjusts the overall brightness of the image (not the same as the brightness control).

Film Mode Optimizes the image for display of 1080p/24 film content.

Smart Dimming Provides more precise backlight control in local areas of the screen to improve the look of both bright and dark area of a displayed image.

Ambient Light Sensor Adjusts the overall backlight level according to room lighting conditions.

Reset Picture Mode: Cancels all picture adjustments made by the user and reverts back to the factory default picture settings.
