How to Use the Microsoft Edge Password Manager to Store Passwords

Microsoft Edge includes a built-in password manager that will store your passwords for you. If the manager is turned on, it will ask you if you want to save your password each time you log into a new website. If you have the strong password suggestion feature turned on, it will prompt you with a randomly generated strong password and then offer to save the password for you each time you sign up for a new website.

Here’s how to store passwords with the Microsoft Edge password manager:

  1. Navigate to a website that you aren’t logged into, and click sign in or otherwise start the sign in process.

The same interface also allows you to export and import passwords if you want to make a manual backup or restore your passwords from a backup.

How to Import Passwords into the Microsoft Edge Password Manager

If you used to use a different browser, like Chrome, legacy Edge, or the now-unsupported Internet Explorer, you could import your passwords from those browsers directly into the Microsoft Edge password manager. There’s no need to export, as Edge can obtain the passwords directly from the other browser as long as it’s still installed on your computer.

Here’s how to import passwords into the Microsoft Edge password manager:

How to Use the Microsoft Edge Password Manager and Password Generator

When you sign up for a new website or change your password at a site you’re already signed up with, you can let Edge generate and save a strong password. This strong password will consist of a random string of letters, numbers, and special characters that will be difficult for most people to remember. Since the password manager can immediately save the password for you, there’s no need to remember or write it down.

Here’s how to generate and store strong passwords with the Microsoft Edge password manager:

  1. Navigate to a website you aren’t signed up with and begin the sign up process, or access the password changing feature of a website you are signed up with.

  2. Enter the required information, and click the password field.
