How Do I Turn On Grid View in FaceTime?

To turn on grid view in FaceTime, you’ll need to be in a call with at least three other people. Everyone’s faces will be differently-sized tiles and will be scattered across the screen when people talk. To organize them into a grid, do the following:

  1. Tap the screen to make the user interface visible.

  2. On iPhones, Grid will appear in the lower left corner. On iPads, check the upper right corner.

  3. Tap Grid. The option will turn white if it’s on.

What Does Grid View Do on FaceTime?

When you turn on grid view, you’ll notice a few changes. Your icon will remain in the lower right corner, but the different-sized tiles for other callers will snap into orderly columns and stay there. Whenever someone talks, a white outline will appear around their tile.

FaceTime remembers your last settings, so once you turn on Grid view, it should remain on until you turn it off.

Why Am I Not Getting Grid View 0n FaceTime?

If your tiles aren’t in grids or you do not see the option to turn on grid view, there are a few possible causes:

  • More people need to join the call. The Grid option only appears when 4+ people are present.
  • There are too many people on the call. FaceTime supports groups of up to 32 people, but iPhones only display six other callers in a grid.
  • You need to update your device. Grid view requires iOS 15 on your iPhone or iPadOS 15 on your iPad.
  • The feature may have a bug. Users aren’t reporting problems with grid view, but iOS 15 is still new.
  • Your device doesn’t support iPadOS 15 or iOS 15. If you can’t update your iPhone to iOS15 or your iPad to iPadOS 15, you won’t see a grid view. Apple stops supporting older devices after several years.

    To start a group FaceTime, just tap New FaceTime and choose all the contacts you want to add. If you already have a group chat going, tap the FaceTime icon in the upper-right corner to call everyone in the chat. You can have up to 32 users in a group call.
