You can connect a Ring Doorbell to your Google Nest Hub or other Google Home product, but you need to understand you won't get all the capability from the Ring.

You’ll need to download the Google Home App, Nest App, and the Ring Doorbell App from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store. The Ring Doorbell is compatible with several different home products, which makes connecting all of these apps fairly straightforward.

How to Connect the Ring Doorbell to a Google Nest Hub

You'll need to perform a few steps to connect your Ring doorbell to your Google Nest Hub.

  1. You’ll start by opening Google Home.

  2. Click the plus sign in the top left corner.

  3. Next, click Setup device.

  4. There are two options you’ll come across: New Device and Works with Google. Click New Device.

  5. If no devices are scanned then you will be prompted to pick a device from the list.

  6. Once this happens you will be prompted to use the Nest App to connect the Nest and Ring.

There Are Some Limitations Using Ring and the Google Nest Hub

Google and Amazon are competitors, and since Amazon owns Ring there are some limitations to using the Ring through the Google Nest Hub. You won’t be able to stream live video from your Doorbell, which means you can’t get a live video feed.

The Google Nest will ring and send alerts from the Ring Doorbell, however. You can also control the Ring device with voice commands from Google Assistant. For example, you'd say, “Google Show Front Door Camera,” and either the Nest App will open up or the Ring app if you set it to do that.

You can connect the standalone Ring App to be opened up through Google Assistant as well, although with a less varied array of options.

What Commands Can My Ring Camera Do With Google Home?

There are several voice commands you can set up to work with your Google Home in regards to the Ring Doorbell. As with most other smart devices you link through Google Home, there are several commands you can use, such as “Turn off Ring Alerts” or “Turn on Ring Alerts.” You can also tell Google Assistant to open up the Ring App and view the live feed from the doorbell camera.

Google Assistant makes utilizing the Ring Camera a breeze, especially if you have other smart home-connected products in your home. You can also answer the Ring through Google Assistant and view motion captures from the device. All in all, Google can access the basic functions of the Ring Doorbell and give you an idea of what is going on.

Which Ring Doorbells Work With the Nest Hub?

Google is constantly updating the Nest Hub software to be compatible with new devices. The most recent Ring Model #B08CKHPP52 Doorbell and the Ring Video Pro Doorbell Model: #88LP000CH000 will work with the Nest Hub. As with any kind of technology, attempting to pair an older Ring Doorbell could be problematic.
