How to Upload Videos on Twitch

Uploading to Twitch can be a great way to share edited videos you have made with your audience. It also removes the need to upload those same clips to other video-sharing sites like YouTube. The process is also relatively easy.

  1. Head over to Twitch.tv in a browser and log into your account.

  2. Click the account icon in the top-right hand corner of the screen to bring down a list of options. You can find the icon next to the Get Bits banner.

  3. Locate Video Producer in the dropdown menu and select it. This will take you to your Creator Dashboard. If you don't see the Video Producer option, then you aren't able to upload videos to Twitch.

  4. Click Upload at the top of the video list. This area will be blank if you haven't uploaded a video yet.

  5. Find the video you want to upload on your computer and click on it to select it.

  6. Wait for the video to finish uploading to Twitch, and then click on it to bring up the details window. You can also wait until the Publish button appears next to the video to enter the details page.

  7. Enter in a title, a description, and finally, the category the video falls under. You can also edit the thumbnail and language here.

  8. Click the Publish option in the bottom right-hand corner to complete the upload and share the video to your Twitch channel.

Why Upload Videos to Twitch?

With more than 26.5 million daily visitors and almost 7 million unique streamers reported for each month in 2020, Twitch has become one of the biggest hubs for online entertainment. If you’ve already gathered a following on the live streaming website, or if you’re looking to branch out and build up your community, Twitch can be an excellent place to do it because of how many users are constantly using the site each day.

Uploading clips to Twitch takes a bit more than just making an account and getting started, unlike other video-sharing websites. Before you can upload a video to Twitch, you will need to be a Twitch Affiliate or Partner.

To become a Twitch Affiliate, you will need to reach the following measurements:

  • Have at least 50 followers
  • Total at least 500 minutes broadcast over the past 30 days
  • Have seven unique broadcast days
  • An average of three or more concurrent viewers
  • Twitch Video Guidelines

You can also use an assortment of different video formats to upload clips to Twitch. From MP4 to more lossless options like FLV, Twitch has plenty of support for various formats to ensure you can upload just about any video you export.

Here are the currently supported formats:

  • MP4, MOV, AVI, and FLV file formats
  • Up to 10Mbps bitrate
  • Up to 1080p/60FPS
  • h264 codec
  • AAC audio

However, something worth noting is you can only process up to five simultaneous uploads at the moment, with a maximum rate of 100 uploads in 24 hours.
