Unzip-Online is a free file extractor website that lets you extract archives without having to download a program to your computer. It works by letting you upload the archive to the website and then download the individual files that you want to keep.

Two of the most popular archive formats are supported—RAR and ZIP—as well as 7Z and TAR. Since it runs through their website, you can use it in any web browser on any operating system.

What We Like

How to Use Unzip-Online

This website is pretty self-explanatory, so there shouldn't be any confusion when using it. Just upload the archive and choose which files to download.

  1. Visit the Uncompress File page on their site, and select Choose File.

  2. Find and select the archive you need to uncompress.

  3. Choose Uncompress file to upload the archive to Unzip-Online and start the decompression process.

  4. Once you see the files listed, select whatever you want to download.

  5. Choose a location on your computer to save the file.

You can repeat the last two steps as many times as you want to download the files out of the archive.

Thoughts on Unzip-Online

This is a perfect file unzipper if you're dealing with an archive and you don't have any software installed on your computer that can do the job. For example, if you're on a computer that doesn't allow program installs (like at school or work), your only real option is to use a website to unzip the archive. However, since Unzip-Online can upload large archives, it's useful even for the bigger ones you may need to decompress.

It's nice that four popular file formats are acceptable. It's also a good thing that the archive can be up to 200 MB in size, which is rather large. That said, uploading a file that large could take a while, depending on your internet speed.

If you're looking for a solid program to unzip archives that doesn't limit file sizes (since some archives are well over a couple hundred megabytes), supports more formats, and doesn't require you to upload or download the archive, try 7-Zip, PeaZip, or jZip.

Funzip is another free file extractor website that's very similar in both design and function to Unzip-Online, but although it supports files up to 400 MB in size, it doesn't work with 7Z or TAR files. Cloudzip is a great website for making a ZIP file.
