How to Uninstall Norton Antivirus From Any Computer

How to Uninstall Norton Antivirus on Windows

You may want to remove Norton antivirus software from your PC or Mac if you switch to another protection app or want to uninstall Norton temporarily while you refresh your hard drive. In some situations, it may be sufficient to turn off or disable the software. In others, completely uninstalling Norton is the only solution.

To uninstall Norton antivirus on your Windows 10, Windows 8, or Windows 7 computer:

1. Open Windows Control Panel.

2. On Windows 10, select Programs and then Programs and Features on the subsequent screen. On Windows 8 and Windows 7, click Programs and Features.

3. Scroll down the list of installed applications and select Norton Security.

4. Select Uninstall/Change in Windows 10 or click Uninstall in Windows 8 and Windows 7 located above the installed program list.

   The User Account Control dialog may appear, asking if you want to allow this app to make changes to your device. Choose Yes to continue.

5. Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the uninstall process. You may be prompted to reboot to remove Norton from your PC.

6. Some Windows users experience problems when attempting to uninstall Norton using this method and receive a message stating that an error occurred, and the software may have been uninstalled. It hasn't been uninstalled in this case, and you need to download and launch the Norton Remove and Reinstall tool from Symantec.

7. If you take this route, select Advanced Options on the Remove & Reinstall Tool's second screen and select Remove Only.

Norton is removed from your PC. Install or activate another antivirus application as soon as possible. It's never a good idea to leave your computer unprotected.

How to Uninstall Norton Antivirus on a Mac

It is equally as easy to remove Norton on a Mac computer.

1. Launch the Norton Security app by clicking its icon in the Dock.

2. Click Norton Security in the app menu bar, located in the upper-left corner of the screen next to the Apple logo.

3. Select Uninstall Norton Security in the drop-down menu.

4. A Norton Security Uninstall dialog appears. Click Uninstall.

5. The Mac informs you that a helper tool is needed to uninstall Norton Security. Enter your macOS system password in the field provided and select Install Helper to continue.

6. Click Restart Now.

   Be sure to save open documents or anything else that you don't want to lose before you restart your Mac.

Norton Security is removed from your Mac. Delete the Dock icon manually by clicking and dragging it to the Trash.
