Kaley McKean / Lifewire How to Unblock Someone on Snapchat Because blocking people on Snapchat hides their accounts from you and yours from them, you can't search for their names and then unblock them. Instead, you'll have to access your list of blocked users from the Snapchat settings. Here's how to unblock someone on Snapchat: Open Snapchat and tap your Bitmoji or username in the upper-left corner of the screen. Tap the gear icon in the upper-right corner to access Settings. Swipe up to see the Account Actions section, then tap Blocked. You'll see a list of usernames of people you blocked. Tap the X that appears to the right of the username of the person you want to unblock. Snapchat prompts you to confirm. Tap Yes if you would like to unblock this person. After you unblock someone, their username disappears from your Blocked list. What to Do After Unblocking Someone Blocking cuts off all contact between you and the blocked user, and the person is removed from your Friends list. After unblocking, you'll need to search for the friend and add them back. To do this, type the username into the search field at the top, then tap Add to the right of the profile picture and username. If the friend isn't a public user, they have to add you back, as well. More About Unblocking People on Snapchat Below are some of the most commonly asked questions and answers about unblocking someone in Snapchat. What Are the Limitations to Blocking and Unblocking Users? Snapchat has been known to place time restrictions on users who re-add friends they recently deleted or blocked. So, if you blocked, unblocked, and tried to re-add them in a short time, Snapchat might prevent you from re-adding them for 24 hours. Do Blocked People Know When You Unblock Them? Snapchat doesn't notify users when you block or unblock them, but they might figure it out. For example, if someone notices that your account has disappeared, they might search for you from another Snapchat account and confirm that they were blocked. If they see a new friend request from you, they may realize that you're adding them back. Is There an Alternative to Blocking People on Snapchat? Instead of temporarily cutting off all contact with someone and then re-adding each other as friends, silence notifications. When you turn on this option for any friend, they remain on your Friends list. You'll still receive snaps and chats but without any of the notifications that come with those snaps. To silence notifications from a Snapchat user, open their contact page by selecting the image next to their name. Once you're on their contact page, use the three-dotted menu at the top to select Message Notifications. Choose Silent. Turn this feature on or off at any time without your friend ever knowing, and enjoy the freedom of opening their snaps and chats at your leisure.
