How to Turn off Facebook Live Notifications

How to Turn Off All Facebook Live Notifications on Facebook.com

The Facebook Live feature allows users to broadcast themselves on video in real time. You might receive a notification encouraging you to tune in whenever a friend or a Page you follow goes Live. If these notications come at times that are inconvenient for you, turn them off in Facebook settings.

Here's how to turn off notifications for Live video whether you're using the web version in a browser or the mobile app for iOS or Android.

  1. On Facebook.com select the down arrow in the top right corner followed by Settings in the dropdown list.

  2. On Facebook.com, select Notifications in the vertical menu on the left.

  3. Scroll down and select Video from the list on both Facebook.com and the app.

  4. To turn off notifications for live video entirely across Facebook, tap the button next to Allow Notifications on Facebook so that it appears gray and says "Off."

    If you prefer, you can turn off notifications individually for:

    • Push notifications
    • Email notifications
    • SMS notifications

How to Turn off Facebook Live Notifications for an Individual Friend or Page

You can only turn off Live notifications for individual friends or Pages from one of their Live video posts—either during the time that they're Live or from a recently ended Live video by locating a [Name] was Live post. Instructions and screenshots are provided for Facebook.com only, but you can follow the same steps if you're doing it from the app.

  1. Find the Live video post for the friend or Page. For example, you could spot in your News Feed or find it by going to their profile or Page.

    You can tell that a friend or a Page is currently Live by looking for the red LIVE label in the top left corner of the video.

  2. Select or tap the three horizontal dots in the top right corner of the Live video post.

  3. Select or tap Turn off Live notifications from the drop-down list.

    If you change your mind and decide you want to turn Live notifications back on for a friend or Page, you can go to their profile or Page, find their Live video post, select or tap the three horizontal dots in the top right of the Live video post and then select or tap Turn on Live notifications.
