"Wasteland 2" is a sequel that did not disappoint, and it was declared our Game of the Year winner for 2014. The post-apocalyptic title that was a runaway Kickstarter success, and went on to be a commercial success as well.

Set some fifteen years after the original Wasteland, players control a part of new Desert Ranger recruits who are assigned to find out who or what is behind the murder of the longtime Desert Ranger named Ace. Like its predecessor, "Wasteland 2" contains dozens of different skills characters can focus on. Coupled with an open world and open-ended storyline, the game offers good replayability.

Since it's release in 2014, "Wasteland 2" had an enhanced edition released in 2015 that includes improved visuals and support for higher video resolutions, as well as new features like the Precision Strike system that allows players to attack body parts of enemies in order to cripple rather than kill. It also includes new perks that added more abilities and bonuses to characters.

Dragon Age: Inquisition

Coming in at the number two spot is "Dragon Age: Inquisition," the third title in the "Dragon Age" series. Many positive gameplay elements from the first and second games in the series are present, while past annoyances have been eliminated. The result is a game with excellent balance and gameplay. Where "Dragon Age: Inquisition" truly shines is in its rich non-linear storyline and campaign. Player decisions have an impact in so many ways on the outcome of the game, making it worth replaying.

Arguably the first blockbuster release of 2014, "Titanfall" was one of the best of 2014 and won dozens of awards at its E3 2013 unveiling. "Titanfall" is set many centuries in a future where players are mech warrior pilots in an online multiplayer battlefield between two competing factions. Included with the initial release were 15 multiplayer maps, more than 30 weapons to choose from, and support for up to 12 players per match. The game also included two multiplayer story campaigns, one for each faction in the game.

"Divinity: Original Sin" is a crowdfunded computer roleplaying game that harkened back to the classic PC RPGs of the past. It also features a co-operative multiplayer mode and a toolkit editor that opens the game to community-created adventures.

"Elite: Dangerous" is the fourth game in the "Elite" series of video games. It is set 45 years after the events of the previous game, "Frontier First Encounters," in the year 3300. Players pilot a spacecraft and explore an open, persistent world that is based on the Milky Way galaxy. The game includes a single-player option as well as a multiplayer option in which player actions will impact the persistent world. "Elite: Dangerous" is the direct sequel to the third game in the series "Frontier: First Encounters" that was released in 1995. The game was funded through a successful Kickstarter back in 2012.​

"Middle-Earth Shadow of Mordor" is an action roleplaying game that takes place between the events of "The Hobbit" and "The Lord of the Rings" novels. In it, players control Talion, a ranger of Gondor who possesses special wraith-like abilities, in his quest to defeat the Black Hand of Sauron. The game includes character customization and an open game world that includes a so-called nemesis system that recalls player encounters with other characters and adjusts how those characters interact with players for through the game.

"This War of Mine" was not only one of the top PC games of 2014, but also one of the most unique games you will probably ever play. The game follows a group of civilians as they try to survive in a war-torn city, which is based on the city of Sarajevo during the Bosnian War of the mid-1990s. Players will have to monitor and control various civilians with no survival or military experience, and manage characters' health, food, mood, and general survival until a cease-fire is declared. During the daytime, the player is confined to indoors where they can upgrade shelter, cook food, or heal survivors. At night, they can have citizens venture outside to search for resources necessary for survival.

It's a sci-fi ​first-person shooter set between the timelines of "Borderlands" and "Borderlands 2." The story revolves around four characters who were non-playable henchmen of Handsome Jack from the previous games. It includes new gameplay features, but remains very similar to that of "Borderlands 2." There are new types of items, such as laser guns and items with a cryogenic effect that can slow or freeze enemies. Other new features include gravity effect on motion, double jumps, the ability to hover, and more.
