Top Disneyland Travel Apps for the iPhone

Make the most of your time at Disneyland with these apps

Approximately 16 million people visit Disneyland every year, which is just a mind-boggling figure. Give yourself a head start over the masses of people who visit Disneyland by downloading one of these useful iPhone apps. You can do everything from view restaurant menus, check wait times, or find the closest bathroom right from your iPhone or iPod touch. If you only download one Disneyland app, make sure it's the Walkee Disneyland iGuide -- it's a must-download for your trip.

MediaLab’s Walkee iGuide to Disneyland (Fee), developed by SoCal Magazine and MediaLab, is a gorgeous iPhone app that provides full-color maps for Disneyland, California Adventure, and Downtown Disney. You can zoom in on any of the maps or tap icons to display wait times, check parade schedules, or view restaurant menus. The app uses the iPhone’s GPS to display your place on the map, which makes it easy to find your way around. You can also add notes and pictures, and the app integrates with Twitter so you can send vacation updates. There’s even an integrated timer so you don’t lose track of your FastPass time! Can you tell I love this app? Although it’s a bit pricey, you won’t find more functionality in any Disneyland app.

It’s not nearly as sleek or full-featured as the Walkee iGuide, but the Disneyland California Mini Guide (Free) does include pretty nice maps for both Disneyland and California Adventure. The color maps have icons to designate bathrooms, restaurants, and attractions; they also list the best places to catch Disney characters. For each restaurant, the app includes iPhone-optimized menus that make it easy to plan your next meal stop. You can also search for attractions based on a number of criteria. There is a tab for wait times, but it appears it’s not widely used. The Walkee Disneyland iGuide is a better choice overall, but this will do in a pinch if you’re on a budget.

SoCal Magazine hits it out of the park again with their Disneyland wait-times app, WalkeeWait (Free). The app has the same fun interface as the Disneyland iGuide app, and it includes wait times for Disneyland and California Adventure. Wait times are continuously updated. There’s a spot to record your own times using the Walkee Line Timer, which keeps track of time for you. You can also set your Fastpass return time and you’ll receive a text message alert. There’s no need to download WalkeeWait if you’re also buying the Disneyland iGuide, but this app is definitely worth a download if you just want a free wait-time app.

If this is your first trip to Disneyland, the Disneyland Notescast can help you plan your trip to the fullest. The app is chock full of information, history, and tips on Disneyland -- all accompanied by over 300 photos. You can use the Notecast app to research attractions, find phone numbers, obtain parade or show hours, or discover the best place to run into Disney characters. Disney experts may find the app a bit basic, but it’s a great resource to have for your first trip.
