How to Change Text Size in Outlook and Windows Mail

If you're not able to change the size of the text you enter in Outlook or Windows Mail email messages, certain Microsoft Edge or Internet Explorer settings may be turned on. This may happen when some accessibility options are enabled. Here's how to turn those settings off so that you can change the text size.

Instructions in this article apply to Outlook 2019, 2016, 2013, 2010; Outlook for Microsoft 365; and Windows Mail.

How to Fix Windows Mail or Outlook When It Doesn't Change the Text Size

To turn off Windows accessibility settings that may affect the font size in your email messages:

  1. Close the email program if it's currently running.

  2. Open the Control Panel
    . In the Windows taskbar, go to Cortana/Search, enter Control Panel, and select it from the list.

  3. In the Control Panel, go to the Search Control Panel text box and enter internet options.

  4. Select Internet Options from the list.

    If you can't find the Control Panel, open the Run dialog box (press the Windows key and the R key together) and enter the inetcpl.cpl command.

  5. In the Internet Properties dialog box, go to the General tab and select Accessibility.

  6. In the Accessibility dialog box, clear the Ignore colors specified on web pages check box, clear the Ignore font styles specified on web pages check box, and clear the Ignore font sizes specified on web pages check box.

  7. Select the OK to close the Accessibility dialog box.

  8. In the Internet Properties dialog box, select OK.

  9. Close the Control Panel.

If the text size still won't change, restart the computer.
