Tame foxes in Minecraft make for excellent companions as they can protect players from hostile mobs. Here's how to tame a fox in Minecraft and how to breed a fox family.

How to Tame a Fox in Minecraft

You can tame a fox in Minecraft by following these steps:

Go to a Taiga biome and find some Sweet Berries. Collect a few dozen to make sure you have enough on hand.
Wait until nightfall and wander around the Taiga biome until you find a fox. Slowly approach it with Sweet Berries in your hand. When the fox is in front of you, use the berries on it. How you use items depend on your platform:
- Windows 10 and Java Edition: Right-click and hold.
- Mobile: Tap and hold.
- PlayStation: Press and hold the L2 button.
- Xbox: Press and hold the LT button.
- Nintendo: Press and hold the ZL button.
Keep feeding the fox Sweet Berries until hearts appear above its head. You'll now have a fox friend who will follow you around and fend off enemies.

What You Need to Tame Foxes

Foxes will run from you unless you're holding Sweet Berries, in which case they will approach you. Feed them about 4 Sweet Berries to win their loyalty.

What You Can Do With Tame Foxes

Foxes chase and attack small animals such as chickens, rabbits, baby turtles (and even fish if they are close enough to shore). Tame foxes will follow you around, attack nearby hostile mobs, and occasionally bring you items. Foxes have the ability to jump up to 5 blocks, making them very helpful for navigating treacherous territory.

Where to Find Foxes in Minecraft

Foxes in Minecraft only appear in Taiga biomes, and they only show up at night. Taiga biomes are identifiable by the many spruce trees that grow in them. Spruces are tall with dark green leaves and pointy tips.

Taiga biomes can be green or snowy. Foxes in the snowy biome are white, making them harder to spot.

If you can’t find a fox, use the /summon fox console command to spawn one instantly.

How to Breed Tame Foxes

If you feed Sweet Berries to two tame foxes, they might make a little fox cub. Foxes you breed are tame from the start, so you can have a whole fox family to keep you safe. Keep feeding your baby fox Sweet Berries to make it grow into an adult.
