Marantz Announces SR5009 Network Home Theater Receiver

Marantz (which is part of D+M Holdings) has unveiled it latest mid-level SR-Series home theater receiver, the SR5009.

Featuring a unique, but stylish, front panel design, the SR5009 provides up to seven channels of amplification, two subwoofer outputs, 7.1 channel analog inputs, 7.2 channel analog preamp outputs, Dolby Pro Logic IIz front height channel processing (using reassigned surround back channels), analog to HDMI video conversion, and both 1080p and 4K upscaling (as well as 4K/60Hz pass-through).

The receiver is also equipped with the Audyssey MultEQ XT speaker setup/room correction system.


Also included: 8 3D, and 4K 60Hz pass-through compatible HDMI inputs (7 rear/1 front), as well as two HDMI outputs (one of the outputs is Audio Return Channel compatible).

Streaming Features

That seems like more than enough to have on a home theater receiver, but to accommodate the increased emphasis on accessing music content from additional sources, the SR5009 is also network-enabled, providing extensive media player functions, such as internet radio and music access from services, such as Pandora, and Spotify, as well as access to content stored on local network-connected devices, such as PCs and NAS drives, and also compatible USB devices.

Also, the SR5009 is incorporates Wifi, to make connection to your home network and the internet more convenient, Bluetooth, which allows wireless streaming from compatible portable devices, such as smartphones and tablets, and Apple AirPlay, so you can stream music from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch as well as from your iTunes libraries.

When connected to your home network, directly to a PC, or USB device, the SR5009 can also access several digital audio file formats, such as WAV, WMA, MP3, MPEG-4 AAC, and ALAC, as well as Hi-Rez DSD, FLAC HD 192/24 and WAV 192/24. Gapless playback is also supported.

Zone 2 Option

For additional operational flexibility, the SR5009 also provides Zone 2 connectivity, which allows users to send a second two-channel audio source to another location using wired speaker connections or the Zone 2 preamp output connected to an external amplifier and speakers.

If using the wired speaker connection option, you can have a 5.1 channel setup in your main room and a two channel setup in another. However, if you take advantage of the Zone 2 preamp output option (remember you also need an additional amplifier) you can have the best of both worlds: a full 7.1 channel setup in your main room, and a separate 2 channel setup in another.

Additional Listening Options

Also for those late night listening session, there is also a front mounted 1/4-inch headphone jack so as not to disturb the rest of your family (or the neighbors).

Another convenience is the inclusion of Smart Select Buttons. With all the numerous audio decoding and processing options, sometimes knowing what might make specific types of content sound best can be confusing. The Smart Select Buttons provide 4 preset audio listing profiles that make your choices a lot easier - However, you can always dig in and do your tweaking, if you prefer.

Power Output

Marantz states that power output is 100wpc (2 channels driven, 20Hz to 20kHz using 8 ohm speaker loads with a .08% THD).

Control Options

User can control the SR5009 via the supplied remote, or take advantage of Marantz's free remote control app for Android or iOS devices.

12 volt triggers and RS232 ports are also provided for custom installed control systems.

Power Consumption

Finally, to save on the electric bill, the SR5009 also has Smart ECO Mode that monitors the actual power need at any given time.
