Here is a photo of the AV connections on the rear panel of the STR-DN1030 located on the left.

Starting on the left side are Digital Coaxial and two Digital Optical inputs.

Moving right are two sets of Component Video (red, green, blue) inputs, followed by a set of component video outputs.

Just to the right of the component video connections are the AM/FM radio antenna connections (Indoor AM and FM antennas are provided).

Moving down to the section is a row of Composite (yellow) video inputs and outputs.

Moving down to the final section is a row of analog stereo inputs and outputs, a set of Zone 2 preamp outputs, and dual subwoofer preamp outputs.

It must be noted that there are not 5.1/7.1 analog audio inputs or outputs and there is also no provision for direct connection of a Turntable for playing Vinyl Records. You cannot use the analog audio inputs to connect a turntable due to the fact that the impedance and output voltage of the turntable cartridge is different than for other types of audio components.

If you desire to connect a turntable to the STR-DN1030, you can either employ an additional Phono Preamp or buy one of the breeds of turntables with built-in phono preamps that will work with the audio connections provided on the STR-DN1030.

Here is a look at the speaker connections provided on the STR-DN1030, located on the bottom center/ride side of the rear panel.

Here are some of the speaker setups that can be used:

1. If you want to use a full traditional 7.1/7.2 Channel setup, you can use the Front, Center, Surround, and Surround Back connections.

2. If you want to have the STR-DN1030 in a Bi-Amp setup for your front left and right speakers, you can reassign the surround back speaker connections for Bi-Amp operation.

3. If you want to have an extra set of front left and right "B" speakers, you reassign the surround back speaker connections to your intended "B" speakers.

4. If you want to have the STR-DN1030 power vertical height channels, you can use the Front, Center, and Surround connections to power 5 channels and reassign the surround back speaker connections to connect to the two intended vertical height channel speakers.

For each physical speaker setup options, you will also need to use the speaker menu options of the receiver to send the correct signal information to the speaker terminals, based on what speaker configuration option you are utilizing. You also have to remember that you cannot use all the available options at the same time.

Also shown in this photo, on the top left, is a set of remote sensor cable connections (in/out - for wired remote control link with compatible devices).

Here is a look at the inside of the STR-DN1030, as viewed from above and the front. Without going into detail, you can see the power supply, with its transformer, on the left, and along the back is the WiFi/Bluetooth board, and all of the amplifier, sound, and video processing circuitry packed into space on the back right. The large silver structure along the front are the heat sinks. The heat sinks are very effective as the STR-DN1030 does get warm if used for an extended period. It is always advisable to make sure you have a few inches of open space on the sides, top, and rear of the receiver for good air circulation.

In this photo, the power supply, with its transformer, is located on the right, and all of the amplifier, sound, and video processing circuitry is on the left. The black squares exposed are some of the audio/video processing and control chips. Also, just to the right of the audio/video processing board is the WiFi/Bluetooth board. At this angle, you also have a clearer view of the heat sinks.

Here is a look at the remote control provided with the Sony STR-DN1030 Home Theater Receiver.

As you can see, this is a long and thin remote. It fits well in your hand, but it is large.

On the top row, you'll find the AMP Button (allows the remote control functions to operate the STR-DN1030), Remote Setup Button (allows remote to be used other compatible devices), AV1 Power (this button controls the power on/off for a compatible connected device), and main Power Button.

Moving to the next row is the Shift button (allows some buttons to be used for more than one function), TV, and Zone (assigns the AV1 power button).

Moving down, the next section has the input select/numeric keypad buttons.

Just below the input/numeric keypad buttons are two rows of buttons for Display, Sound Optimizer, and Sound Field (selects surround sound format). On the next row are the Yellow, Blue, Red, and Green Buttons. These buttons change function depending on other components and content used.

Moving to the center section of the remote are the menu access and navigation buttons.

The next section just below the menu access and navigation buttons are the transport buttons. These buttons also double and navigation buttons for iPod and digital media playback. Also, the Play button also activates the Sony's Party Streaming Mode with compatible Sony Homeshare products.

On the bottom of the remote are the Mute, Master Volume, and TV Channel/Preset buttons, as well as additional buttons for access BD/DVD menus and TV input source selection.
