This article explains how to sign out of Netflix on Roku, plus how to log into a different Netflix account. The steps are slightly different depending on your device.

This guide covers all Roku streaming players as well as Roku TV for these brands and possibly others: Haier, Hisense, Insignia, Sharp, and TCL.

How Can I Sign out of Netflix?

On newer Roku streaming players and smart TVs, signing out of Netflix is easy from the app's home screen. If you're not sure which version of Roku you have, walk through these steps first; directions for older models are below.

  1. From the Netflix home screen, use the left arrow to open the menu, and then press the down arrow to select Get Help.

If that doesn't work, try using the up arrow instead, and then select the settings option (not pictured here; some devices have this). If that doesn't work either, see below for more help.

If there are Netflix profiles set up, you'll need to get through those first before you can complete these steps.

  2. Choose Sign out.

  3. Confirm with Yes.

If those steps aren't working, start from the Netflix app, and press the following arrows on the remote in this exact order: Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right, Up, Up, Up, Up. Select Sign out, Start Over, Deactivate, or Reset.

Roku 2 and Roku LT

Try these steps if you have the 2nd-gen Roku (i.e., Roku 2 HD, XD, XS, or LT).

  1. Go to the Home Menu by pressing the Home button.

  2. Find and highlight the Netflix app, and then press the star key on the remote.

  3. Choose Remove channel, and then select it again to confirm.

Roku 1

These steps are for older Roku devices released between 2008 and 2010.

  1. Use the Home button to go to the Roku Home Menu.

  2. Go to Settings > Netflix Settings.

  3. Choose Deactivate this player from my Netflix account.

  4. Select Yes when prompted.

Roku TVs

If you're logged in to Netflix on Roku TV, here's what you need to do:

This is confirmed to work for TCL, Sharp, Insignia, Haier, and Hisense TVs, but it might also be valid for other Roku TVs.

  1. From the home screen within the Netflix app, press Back on the remote.

  2. Choose the settings/gear icon on the right.

  3. Select Sign out.

  4. Confirm with Yes.

How to Sign out of Netflix on Roku Remotely

If you no longer have access to the Roku device, or the directions explained above aren't working for you, you can still sign out of Netflix. There are two ways to do this, depending on your particular situation.

From Your Netflix Account

You might follow these steps if you don't own the Roku, like if you're logged in to Netflix at someone else's house.

Visit the Sign Out of All Devices area of your Netflix account, and then choose Sign Out to instantly log out of every device using your account. Unfortunately, there's no way to selectively log out of just the Roku, you have to do them all at once.

From Your Roku Account

If the Roku is yours (i.e., you set it up originally under your own Roku account), but for whatever reason you can't sign out from your Netflix account, disconnecting your entire Roku account from the device will essentially log you out of Netflix (and everything else you might be logged in to).

This is done by unlinking the device from your Roku account. This will disconnect your identity from the device, so all the apps you've added to it will no longer be available, and anyone who tries using it will need to log in to their own Roku account, and ultimately their own Netflix account if they so choose.

The steps are simple: Sign in to your Roku account in a web browser, scroll down to the list of linked devices, and choose Unlink next to the Roku using your Netflix account.

How Do I Log Into a Different Netflix Account?

To sign in to a different Netflix account on Roku, use the steps above to sign out. When prompted, enter the credentials to the other Netflix account you want to use.

Another way a Netflix account could be interpreted is as a Netflix profile. Of course, these are just mini accounts within the main one, so switching between profiles is even easier.

Visit the Netflix home screen and use the left arrow to open the side menu, and then use the up arrow a couple of times to select a profile (if you see one). The option at the very top of the menu, called Switch Profiles, will list all the profiles you can pick from.

What It Means to Sign out of Netflix

It's crucial you're aware of what it means to sign out of Netflix. Signing out, or logging off (same thing), just means you're disconnecting your account from the app. Nothing more, nothing less.

This means signing out of Netflix doesn't have any effect on the status of your Netflix subscription. Neither does shutting off your TV, deleting the Netflix profiles, or even removing the Roku or deleting the whole Netflix app from the device.

See How to Cancel Netflix if that's what you're really after. You can do it from a computer or your phone.

  • Why is Netflix not working on my Roku TV?

There are several fixes for when Netflix isn't working on Roku. Check that Netflix itself isn't down, make sure your Roku device is attached properly, and ensure the Roku is connected to Wi-Fi. Try restarting the Roku, updating the Roku app on your mobile device, resetting the Roku remote, or resetting your Roku device.

  • How do I change my Netflix account on Roku?

To change the Netflix user account on your Roku, you'll need to delete the Netflix app from your Roku and add it again with the account you want. From the Roku home screen go to My Channels > Netflix, press the star key on the remote, and select Remove Channel. Then go to the Roku Channel Store, add Netflix again, and log in with the new account.

  • How do I change the Netflix profile on Roku?

To change the Netflix watch profile on Roku, exit out of Netflix on your Roku, then open the Netflix channel again. Select a different profile, then continue to Netflix. Netflix allows up to five watch profiles for each account.
