Starting off this look at the Samsung HT-D6500W, are all the components of the system. On the left is the passive subwoofer. In the center is the main unit housing the Blu-ray Disc player and home theater receiver portions of the system. On the farthest right is the wireless receiver/amplifier module that the surround speakers connect to, and the rest of the photo features front channel speakers (the tallest), the center channel speaker (laying on top of the main unit), and the surround speakers (the two small speakers on the option of the center channel speaker).

Here is a "triple" view of the main unit of the Samsung HT-D6500W system that houses the Blu-ray Disc player and home theater receiver section.

The top portion shows the unit when it is turned off, while the middle photo shows the units when it is in operation. Also shown are the front panel connections, which are located on the bottom right of the middle photo.

The front panel controls are all the touch sensitive type, so there are no actual buttons to push. Also, there is no disc tray that pops out to load Blu-ray discs, DVDs, or CDs. There is a slot located just below the front panel controls and info display where you place your disc. The HT-D6500W then grabs the disc and slides it into the unit for playback.

Moving the right side of the main unit is the volume control (the area labeled - amd +). Just below the volume control, is the input for microphone used for Musical Room Calibration function, and, just to the right, is the front mounted USB port. The USB port can be used to access media files store on flash drives, provide memory storage for access to BD-Live functions, or transfer firmware updates.

Finally on the bottom photo is a look at the entire rear panel of the HT-D6500W main unit, featuring all the networking, audio, video, and speaker connections, which are located on the left and center of the rear panel, as well as a cooling fan and power cord located on the right side.

For a closer look at, and explanation of, the rear panel connections, proceed to the next two photos...

Here is a look at the rear panel connections that located on the left side of the rear panel of the Samsung HT-D6500W main unit.

Starting on the left is the LAN (Ethernet) Connection. This connect can be used to physically connect the Samsung HT-D6500W to an internet router for accessing sotred media on your home network or streaming movies and music from the internet. However, the Samsung HT-D6500W is also equipped with built-in WiFi, so either connection can be used to accomplish this task. The Ethernet connection option is often the most reliable for streaming.

Moving right is is the iPod docking port connection. An iPod dock is provided with the HT-D6500W.

Next is a digital optical input connection. This can be used to access audio from a CD player, DVD player, or other source that has a digital optical output connection.

Located on the right of the digital optical input is the HDMI output. This is how you connect the Samsung HT-D6500W to a TV or video projector. The HDMI output is also Audio Return Channel-enabled.

HDMI is the preferred connection if your TV or video projector has an HDMI or DVI input (in which case you can use an optional HDMI-to-DVI connection adapter if needed).

Finally, on the right side of this photo are two HDMI inputs. These inputs can be used to connect any HDMI-equipped source device (such as an additional Blu-ray or upscaling DVD player, Satellite box, DVR, etc...) to the HT-D6500W.

For a look at the rest of the connections provided on the HT-D6500W, proceed to the next photo...

In this photo, we are looking at the rest of the rear panel connections on the Samsung HT-D6500W main unit that weren't shown in the previous photo.

Starting on the left is the FM Antenna connection, followed by the TX card slot. The TX card is provided. This card enables the HT-D6500W main unit to transmit audio signals to the wireless receiver/amplifier used to power the surround speakers.

Moving to the right of the TX card slot are a series of analog audio and video connections.

On top is a set of component video (red, green, blue) outputs. If your TV or video projector does not have HDMI connections, check to see if they have component video connections, as this would be the next best connection option.

Moving below the component video connections is a set of analog stereo audio inputs, as well as a composite video output. Only use the composite video output if your TV or video projector does not have HDMI or component video inputs. It is important note that full 1080p HD and 3D can only be accessed when using the HDMI connections. However, you must also have a TV or video projector that is 3D compatible.

Finally, on the right side are the speaker connections. As you can see there are connections for the center, front L/R, and subwoofer speakers. The surround speakers connect to the additional wireless receiver/amplifier module.

It is also important to not that the speaker connections are not-traditional and the that the speaker impedance rating is 3 ohms. Do not connect the speakers to a different home theater receiver or amplifier other than the HT-D6500W or home theater-in-a-box system that uses the same type of speaker connections and ohm rating. This also applies to the subwoofer.

Shown here is a close-up of the wireless receiver/amplifier module (SWA-5000) that is used to receive audio signals from the main unit and power the surround speakers. Although this eliminates having to connect long speaker wire from the main system unit to the the surround speakers, the surround speakers still have to be connected to the SWA-5000 wireless receiver in order to function.

In addition, devices that may be within close proximity, such as microwave ovens, or devices that transmit signals using the 2.4 or 5.8 GHz frequency band can interfere with this wireless receiver.

The maximum distance that the wireless receiver can be placed away from the rest of the HT-D6500W system is about 33 feet.
