Introducing 4K Roku TVs

Internet Streaming in undoubtedly one the most popular ways to access TV and movie programs and two well-known names that always come to mind in that space are Netflix and Roku.

Netflix is definitely the dominant provider of internet streaming video content, while Roku products, such as their boxes and streaming stick allows consumers to add internet streaming access to almost all types of TVs.

However, Roku has taken their product concept up a notch in the past year or so by partnering with several TV makers, including Haier, Hisense, TCL, Sharp, and Insignia to incorporate the Roku operating system right into the TV, rather than requiring the connection of an external stick or box.

However, so far, all Roku TVs were either 720p or 1080p sets, but now, in 2016, Roku has upped their game even further by partnering with Best Buy, via their Insignia house brand, to introduce the first 4K-enabled Roku TVs.

The Insignia-branded 4K Roku TVs are the NS-43DR710NA17 (43-inches), NS-50DR710NA17 (50-inches), and the NS-5DR710NA17 (55-inches).

Insignia Roku 4K TV Features

The Roku features are the same on all the sets, which includes a personalized home screen that provides easy access to not only internet streaming content, as well as a 4K Spotlight feature that provides quick access to all available 4K streaming content.

Also, other TV functions, such as input selection and operational settings are accessible via the Roku home screen.

For streaming, Roku provides access to over 3,000 channels (some depend on country location - and feature 4K and non-4K sources). The channels can be accessed via the Roku store. There are many free channels, (such as YouTube), but there are also many that require monthly subscriptions, (including Netflix, HuluPlus) or pay-per-view fees (Vudu).

Instead of scrolling through all the channels to find what you want to watch, Roku also provides a search function, as well as its Roku Feed, which can remind you when a specific show or event is coming, and if there is a fee to watch it.

With the Addition of 4K, all this sounds great so far, but also keep in mind that accessing 4K via streaming also requires consumers to have very fast broadband speeds, with Netflix recommending as much as 25mpbs. If it turns out that your broadband speed isn't adequate for full 4K streaming, Netflix, or other content providers, may "downscale" the signal to 1080p resolution or lower, and although the TV will upscale that signal to 4K, viewers will not see a true 4K result on the screen.

Additional TV Features

In addition to all the internet streaming features provided as a result of the incorporation of the Roku operating system, additional features are included on all three TVs.

- DLNA-compatibility - This means that all the TVs can be used to access compatible audio, video, and still image files from your home network connected devices, such as a PC.
