Creating new ringtones

I’ve always been pretty boring with my ringtone selection -- Marimba anyone? -- so I was excited to be a little more creative. The first step in using Ringtone Designer Pro is to select a song from your music library, which will then be edited and used as a ringtone. The next step is to select a portion of the song for your ringtone.

You can create ringtones up to 40 seconds long, but they don’t have to be that long if you prefer something shorter. Ringtone Designer Pro brings up the full song in the editing window. Simply slide the starting and ending guidelines until you are happy with the final product (pressing play will preview your ringtone). Once that is done, just tap save and the ringtone is ready to transfer to iTunes. As you can see from this description, Ringtone Designer Pro is incredibly easy to use, and it takes mere minutes to create your first ringtone. You can also use the iPhone’s microphone to record your own voice or sounds.

You’ll need to sync with iTunes to transfer the ringtones to your settings menu. I saw a lot of complaints about this on iTunes, but it is a limitation I have encountered with every other ringtone app I've tested -- it is not unique to Ringtone Designer Pro. The app includes a short video that explains the process. It is a little convoluted to transfer ringtones, so you will probably want to watch the tutorial if this is your first time.

Syncing with iTunes

If you plan to create custom ringtones for each contact, I would recommend creating all of your ringtones first before syncing with iTunes. That way you can transfer the ringtones all at once. Setting up a ringtone for just one contact is easy -- just bring up that contact on your iPhone and tap the ‘ringtone’ tab underneath the phone numbers.

There are a few comments on iTunes that some songs can’t be converted to a ringtone (even if they were purchased it at iTunes). However, I created more than 30 ringtones from a variety of artists, and I never had a problem in that regard.

The Bottom Line

It doesn’t get much better than this. Ringtone Designer Pro is very easy to use, and you can create unlimited ringtones from your existing music or own recordings. I was also impressed with the sound quality. Ringtone Designer Pro is definitely worth having for creating your own ringtones. Overall rating: 5 stars out of 5.
