Spam filtering is precise, but not ultimately so: you can recover emails erroneously marked junk in Yahoo! Mail

You Do Not Know What Mail You May Be Missing

Yahoo! Mail includes the ability to automatically filter spam to the Spam (or, possibly in your Yahoo! Mail version the Bulk Mail) folder. This works fairly well and keeps your Yahoo! Mail Inbox practically spam-free.

Like much anything in life, the filters are, alas, not perfect.

So a desired message may end up in the Bulk Mail folder instead of the Yahoo! Mail Inbox.

Review Your Yahoo! Mail "Spam" Folder Periodically

That is why you should

  • go to the Spam (in Yahoo! Mail) (or Bulk in Yahoo! Mail Classic) folder once in a while to
  • see whether any legit mail has been hiding there.

Will Mail in the Yahoo! Mail "Spam" Folder Be Deleted Automatically?

Do keep in mind that messages in the Spam folder will be deleted automatically after they have been in the folder for 30 days. You should

  • visit and check the Spam folder at least that often—about once a month or every four weeks—to not miss any good messages.

What Can I Do to Prevent Automatic Deletion?

In addition to reviewing the contents of the Spam folder, you can mark erroneously filtered messages as not junk. This not only will recover the message to your Yahoo! Mail inbox—and make it available for download via Yahoo! Mail POP access, for instance—, it will also train the spam filter not to catch similar messages in the future.
