Alexa can assist you in practically every room of the house; you can even have Alexa in your vehicle. At the same time, the number of smart devices compatible with Alexa has exploded, with everything from plugs and light bulbs to thermostats, doorbells, and home security systems ready to sync up with Amazon's virtual assistant. But if you have too many or unused objects connected, here's how to remove those smart devices from Alexa and reconnect them if necessary. Instructions in this article apply to Amazon Echo devices using the Alexa app on Android or iOS devices. Remove Smart Devices from Alexa When you need to know how to remove devices from Alexa, look no further than the Alexa mobile app. Removing a smart device from Alexa also removes the device from all groups and routines. Open the Alexa app on your mobile device. Adding and removing devices is not supported on the Alexa desktop app. Select Devices in the lower-left corner of the screen. Select All Devices, represented by three dots at the top of the screen. Select the smart home device you want to remove, and then choose Settings. Select the Trash icon in the upper-right corner of the screen. Choose Delete on the confirmation screen and close the app. How to Connect Smart Home Devices to Alexa Connecting smart home devices allows you to control them using Alexa. Before you get started, set up your smart home device according to the manufacturer's instructions. Make sure the device is compatible with Alexa and complete the setup for the smart home device on the manufacturer's website or app. Download and install the latest software updates for the device and connect it to the same Wi-Fi network as your Echo device. Open the Alexa app on your mobile device. Adding and removing devices is not supported on the Alexa desktop app. Select the menu in the upper-right corner of the screen and choose Settings. Select Device Settings. Select the + in the upper-right corner of the All Devices screen. Select Add Device. Select the type of device you want to add and choose the brand. If the brand is not listed, select Other. Select Get Started and then choose Continue. Enable the skill to control the device using Alexa. Log in to the account related to the device if prompted. A notification appears informing you that the smart device has been successfully linked to your Alexa device.
