Tweet Photos and Video From Your iPad

It's super easy to upload photos and video to Twitter, but you may need to do a little set up first.   The iPad allows you to connect your tablet to your social media accounts such as Twitter, which means apps like Photos can directly access your account and perform tasks like uploading photos.  This also allows you to use Siri to send a tweet.

You can connect your iPad to Twitter in the iPad's settings.   First, launch the Settings app.  (Find out how...) On the left-side menu, scroll down until you see Twitter.  In Twitter settings, simply type in your user name and password and tap Sign In.  If you haven't already downloaded the Twitter app, you can do so by tapping the Install button at the top of the screen.  You can also connect your iPad to Facebook.

We'll go over two ways to upload photos and video to Twitter.  The first way is limited to just photos, but because it uses the Photos app, it can be easier to pick out and send a photo.  You can even edit the photo before sending it, so if you need to crop it or touch up the color, the image can look great on Twitter.

How to Upload a Photo to Twitter using the Photos App:

  • Go to Your Photos. Now that the iPad is connected to Twitter, sharing photos is easy. Simply launch the Photos app and choose the photo you want to upload.
• Share the Photo.. At the top of the screen is a Share Button that looks like a rectangle with an arrow coming out of it. This is a universal button you will see in many iPad apps.  It's used to share anything from files and photos to links and other information.   Tap the button to bring up a menu with different sharing options.
  • Share to Twitter. Now simply tap the Twitter button.  A pop up window will appear allowing you to add a comment to the photo.  Remember, like any tweet, it is limited to 140 characters. When you are finished, tap the 'Send' button at the top right corner of the pop-up window.

And that's it! You should hear a bird chirp that confirms the photo was successfully sent to Twitter. Anyone who follows your account should easily be able to pull the photo up in Twitter or with a Twitter app.

How to Upload a Photo or Video to Twitter using the Twitter App:

  • Allow the Twitter App Access to Your Photos.  When you first launch Twitter, it will ask for access to your Photos.   You will need to grant access for Twitter to use your camera roll.
  • Compose a New Tweet.  In the Twitter app, simply tap the box with a feathered pen in it.  The button is located on the upper-right corner of the app.
  • Attach a Photo or Video.  If you tap the camera button, a pop-up window will appear with all of your albums.   You can use this to navigate to the right photo or video.
  • If Attaching a Photo... you can do some light editing by tapping and holding the photo when picking it out, but you won't have as many options as you would in the Photos app.
  • If Attaching a Video... you will first be asked to edit the video.  You can only upload a maximum of 30 seconds, but Twitter makes it relatively easy to cut out a clip from the video.  You can make the clip longer or shorter by tapping the end of the blue box where the straight lines are located and moving your finger in towards the middle to make it shorter or away from the middle to make the clip longer.  If you tap your finger in the middle of the clip and move it, the clip itself will move within the video, so you can make the video clip start earlier or later in the video.  When you are done, tap the Trim button at the top of the screen.
  • Write a Message.  Before you send the tweet, you can also type in a short message.   When ready, hit the Tweet button at the bottom of the screen.

Videos in the Twitter timeline will automatically play if the reader stops on them, but they will only have sound if the reader taps on the video to make it go full screen.
