How to Play Audible Books on Google Home

Three workarounds to get Audible on your Home or Nest speaker

What to Know

  • Audible doesn’t run directly on Google Home.
  • Connect the Google Home speaker to your device via Bluetooth to act as a Bluetooth speaker.
  • Cast the Audible app on your phone to your Google Home speaker using the Google Home app.

This article explains how to play Audible books on Google Home devices, including instructions for connecting via Bluetooth and casting via Wi-Fi from your phone or computer.

Can Google Home Play Audible Books?

Google Home devices don’t support Audible books natively, but you can listen to Audible books on a Google Home speaker if you have the Audible app on your phone, tablet, or computer. One method requires the Google Home app you initially used to set up your Google Home device, and the other uses Bluetooth.

How to Play Audible Books on Google Home With Bluetooth

Your Google Home speaker can work as a wireless Bluetooth speaker, which means you can use it to listen to Audible books by connecting it to any device with the Audible app installed. This process requires you to pair your Google Home or Nest speaker with a phone, tablet, or PC that has the Audible app.

This method is the best to use if the device you’re using to play Audible books doesn’t have Google Home installed, or you’re using a Google Home speaker you didn’t set up initially.

While you’re using this method, your device will play audio over your Google Home speaker instead of its built-in speakers, headphones, or any other connected devices.

How to Play Audible Books on Google Home With the Google Home App

If you have the Google Home app installed on your phone, then you can use that to cast audio from the Audible app to your Google Home speaker instead of connecting with Bluetooth. This method requires you to connect your phone to the same Wi-Fi network as your Google Home device, and it will only work if your Google Home app has access to the speaker you’re trying to use. If someone else has set up the Google Home speaker with their account on their device, this method won’t work.

  1. Make sure your Google Home speaker and your phone are connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

  2. Open the Google Home app on your phone.

  3. Tap the Google Home or Nest speaker you want to use with Audible.

  4. Tap Cast my audio.

How to Cast Audible Books on Google Home From a Desktop Computer

If you have a desktop computer connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Google Home speaker, you can use Chrome to cast Audible books from that PC to your speaker. The process is a little unintuitive because the Audible web player pops out of the main Audible site, so the casting option isn’t immediately apparent.

Here’s how to cast Audible books on Google Home from a desktop computer:

  1. Make sure your Google Home speaker and your computer are on the same network.

  2. Navigate to Audible.com using the Chrome web browser, and click Play on the book you want to listen to.
