To start off this photo look at the Panasonic TC-L42ET5 3D Network LED/LCD TV is a front view of the set. The TV is shown here with an actual image. The photo has been brightness and contrast adjusted in order to make the TV's black bezel more visible for this photo presentation.

The screen incorporates IPS technology, which maintains image integrity at wider viewing angles.

There is a set of controls located on the right side, behind the screen (will be shown and explained later in this profile). The controls are also duplicated on the wireless remote control, which we will also take a look at later in this profile.

Here is a look at the accessories and documentation included with the Panasonic TC-L42ET5.

Starting in the back is the Quick Start Guide and Remote control.

Moving forward, starting on the left are four sets of the included Passive 3D Glasses, safety documentation, the User Manual, remote control batteries, detachable power cord, cable tie, and a combined component video, composite video (yellow)/analog stereo (red/white) connection adapter. The reason that this adapter is provided is to save space on the rear connection panel. Also, since the component and composite video connections are combined into a single adapter, you cannot have both a component video and composite video source connected to the TV at the same time.

Here is a look at the connections on the TC-L42ET5U (click on image for larger view).

All of the connections are located on right side of the rear of the TV (when facing the screen). The connections are actually arranged horizontally and vertically - they are shown in a "V" formation here to make it easier to view the connections for this photo presentation.

Starting from the left of this photo and working our way to the right and then up the right side, first is the is a wired LAN (Ethernet). It is important to note that the TC-L42ET5U also has built-in Wifi, but if you don't have access to a Wireless router or your wireless connection is unstable, you can connect an Ethernet cable to the LAN port for connection to a home network and the internet.

Moving right is that Ant/Cable RF input connection for receiving over-the-air HDTV or unscrambled digital cable signals. Just to the immediate right of the RF input is a Digital Optical Audio output. Many HDTV programs contain Dolby Digital soundtracks, which can be accessed by connecting the digital optical output to your home theater receiver.

Next is a PC-in or VGA. This allows the Panasonic TC-L42ET5 to be connected to a PC or laptop monitor output.

Finally, moving towards the bottom center of the photo, is the combined Component (Green, Blue, Red) and Composite Video inputs, along with associated analog stereo audio inputs. There is a special adapter cable provided to use for this connection.

Moving up vertically towards the right are following connections: Four HDMI inputs. These inputs allow the connection of an HDMI or DVI source (such as an HD-Cable or HD-Satellite Box, Upscaling DVD, or Blu-ray Disc Player). Sources with DVI outputs can also be connected to HDMI input 1 via DVI-HDMI adapter cable. It is also important to note the HDMI 1 input is Audio Return Channel (ARC) enabled. which provides another way to transfer audio originating in the TV to a compatible home theater receiver.

Finally, moving to the top of the side-facing connections, are two USB inputs and an SD Card slot. These are used for accessing audio, video, and still image files on USB flash drives or SD Cards.

The Remote Control for the TC-L42ET5 is large (about 9 1/4-inches), but it was a good fit for my hand. Also, its large buttons make the remote easy to use.

On the very top of the remote are the Standby Power On/Off Button, and Light (remote backlight).

Moving down to the first complete row are the Input select, 3D, Closed-caption and SAP buttons.

Next is a section that features buttons arranged on within a half-circle. These buttons are for accessing and navigating the onscreen menu functions as well as the Internet and networking features.

Next is a row of consisting of red, green, blue, and yellow buttons. These are special buttons whose functions that are assigned for specific content, such as special menu functions on Blu-ray Discs.

The next row of buttons includes Mute, Format (aspect ratio), SD/USB input selector, and Favorite Channel access.

In the next section down are the volume and channel scrolling buttons, followed by the direct channel access keypad.

Finally, at the bottom of the remote, are a series of transport buttons that can be used when controlling a compatible disc player (DVD, Blu-ray, CD) or the transport functions of internet streamed and network-based content.
