Get a head start on your newsletter design with a free template

Free newsletter templates are available online for print newsletters and for web use. These newsletter templates are in PDF, Word, Publisher, and other formats. Some sites offer dozens of layouts, and others have just one or two free templates. Although some come in formats for specific software, such as Microsoft Word or Adobe InDesign, you may be able to open them in other software programs. They're free downloads, so go ahead and give it a try, even if you don't have that particular software.

If the template is almost right, edit and personalize the newsletter template. Change the fonts. Change the colors. Move elements around to suit your needs. It's your newsletter, after all.

Don't forget to check the templates that came with your software. There's an excellent chance you'll find you already have a newsletter template. If not, there are plenty of free templates on the internet you can download for your publishing needs.

InDesign Newsletter Templates

Although Adobe InDesign does offer some free templates at its website, surprisingly none are for newsletters. You'll need to browse the internet and search for newsletter templates for use in Adobe InDesign. Tailor the search results to your own platform or to other Adobe programs.

Stock layouts are available from several sites. Most come with the fonts and graphics needed to create a professional-looking newsletter. You only need to add your text and photos.

Microsoft Newsletter Templates

Check out the free newsletter templates at Microsoft's website. These Word templates are great for single page newsletters. Professionally designed and colorful, the collection includes templates for business, school, and family newsletters. 

PoweredTemplate Newsletter Templates

Although the newsletter templates at PoweredTemplate are all single page templates, there are plenty of them and they are professionally designed and colorful.  This site sells templates as well, but the free selection is generous.

Xerox Newsletter Templates

Xerox offers free newsletter templates for letter-size and tabloid newsletters. Professionally designed and colorful, these templates provide a strong visual kick for your next newsletter. The templates are designed specifically for use with Microsoft Word.

CakeMail HTML Newsletter Templates

CakeMail offers free single page HTML layouts for online newsletters. The attractive templates are available in the categories of:

  • Education

GoogleDocs Newsletter Templates

Google has a few templates for newsletters for Google Docs users. Some designs also have other business documents using the same style if you want to create coordinated sets. offers three different newsletter templates. These Microsoft Word templates are not fancy, but they will get you started.

StockLayouts Free Sample Newsletter Template

In addition to many designs for purchase, StockLayouts offers several attractive free newsletter templates. You'll have to sign up for a free account in order to download the free sample. The templates are available for InDesign, Illustrator, Word, Publisher, Apple Pages, QuarkXPress, and CorelDraw.

For the web or email, TempleWorkz offers about two dozen free newsletter templates in a variety of colors and layouts. The download includes .psd and HTML formats and fonts.
