Google Android's Android

Ah, yes, the Motorola Droid. I recently had the chance to check out the new Moto Z Force Droid Edition and it modular MotoMods and I must admit, it's a nice phone. I still remember the reaction from my sister-in-law and my mom when I walked into the kitchen, turned off the lights and used the projector mod to play a YouTube video on the wall.

Then again, some of you might still be rocking a classic like the Droid 2. Hey, that's cool, too. In fact, we haven't forgotten about you, so we've got this handy-dandy tutorial in case you want to learn how to remove its back cover. Fortunately, getting access to your MicroSD memory card and the battery is as easy as cooking eggs sunny side down. All you really need is a quick slide and a flip.

First, turn over your Motorola Droid 2 and slide the back cover downwards. Don’t worry if you don’t happen to have thumbs of steel like yours truly in the image above. Feel free to use both hands to get better grip and leverage. With enough pressure, your Droid 2’s back cover should slide down — kinda like my 401k in 2008. Yeah, so much for early retirement. But I digress. Let’s move on, shall we?

Here’s the Motorola Droid 2 doing its best Katy Perry imitation and showing some, um, skin. Fine, fresh and fierce, eh?

From here, you can see the battery and the MicroSD card, which is tucked ninja-like on the upper left. This should be where you can access the SIM card as well if you have the Droid 2 Global version. Sadly, I didn’t have access to a Droid 2 with a SIM card while putting together this tutorial.

Next, let’s take out that battery.

Taking out the memory card isn’t as easy as removing the battery for your typical caveman. But it should still be no trouble for your average homo sapien.

Like an aggressively expanding company, the key here is using leverage. You can either try sliding the MicroSD memory card out by pulling on the groove on its edge or just pinching it and pulling out.

To put the memory card back, just slide it in and push.

Remember that toy with the variously shaped blocks that you could fit in similarly shaped slots or holes when you were a kid? Well, putting back the Motorola Droid 2 back cover works with the same concept.

You’ll know you’re doing it right if the metal fasteners on the bottom of the back cover align with their respective slots. Just lay in the cover as smoothly as a sweet talking car salesman aiming for a hefty commission. No consultation with the manager required.
