In partnership with Microsoft, print and design service MOO now offers several resumes you can send in an email or post online, helping both you and employers go paperless, but the advantages go beyond that. A digital resume also leverages those elements you can't capture on paper, from video to social profiles, and beyond. Use these with judgment. Some employers insist on traditional resumes, however. In some cases, MOO's version of the resume helps you strike that balance. Add a header to the top with your name, address, and contact information, and you can attach it to job forms as you would any other resume. How to Find Microsoft Office Templates for Word on Office Online In other words, the succinct style of MOO's resumes may not be appropriate for all jobs. Consider what the resume was originally intended to do: provide a one-stop-shopping view of what you can contribute to an employer. That means these types of digital resumes may work against you. In general, if the job advertisement describes a type of work you can only feature in online portfolio formats, you can use a digital resume that points to those resources. When in doubt, send a question to the employer asking whether an online portfolio is accepted or even preferred. So, without further ado, here is a gallery of MOO's resume and cover letter templates for Microsoft Office, along with a few tips on how to customize each one. 01 of 06 Crisp and Clean Digital Resume Template by MOO for Microsoft Word Crisp and Clean Digital Resume Template by MOO for Microsoft Word. Crisp and Clean Digital Resume Template by MOO for Microsoft Word This Crisp and Clean Digital Resume Template by MOO for Microsoft Word is actually a table, which is an interesting approach. If you work with tables a lot, you know this allows you to respace, move things around, customize certain cells, and much more. It also means, if you don't use Microsoft Office's tables a lot, you should avoid making drastic changes to this template layout. It can only end in tears, if you are under a deadline, as most job searchers are! You can easily use this and other resumes in this show without table skills, however, by treating each box or area as a set field. Just type into the spaces already laid out and designed for you. In this image, I show how you can change the color scheme of this template by selecting the cell or social icon until a new Design Tab pops up. Then, change the Shading. For example, though the default color of this template is dark yellow, I can change one or all elements to light blue, as I show here for the LinkedIn social icon. Other icons include a Twitter handle, email, and phone. Find this template in Word by selecting File > New then searching for it by keyword in the field near the top of your screen. 02 of 06 Crisp and Clean Digital Cover Letter Template by MOO for Microsoft Word Crisp and Clean Digital Cover Letter Template by MOO for Microsoft Word. (c) Screenshot by Cindy Grigg, Courtesy of Microsoft and MOO As mentioned on the previous slide, this Polished Digital Cover Letter Template by MOO for Microsoft Word is a strong option for those who want to present a versatile job search summary — one that can work for most situations. For example, this template is great for digital job applications, but you can also print it. In fact, of the three job search designs I feature in this slideshow, this cover letter and its associated resume are probably the most printable, in my opinion. If you do print a color resume like this one, be sure to use quality paper and print in advance. You can certainly print this in grayscale, but always leave time to make adjustments as needed. While color adds pop and flare, it also adds another consideration to polish, making this option potentially more complex than a black and white cover letter option, so hopefully, that helps you decide whether a more creative design like this is right for you. Some instructions for this template point you to the Design tab for those changes, but note how you may need to click on each element, then change the color from the Format tab. After that, just keep customizing other template elements to your new color scheme. This template is found under File > New as well.
