Moo0 File Shredder v1.23

A Full Review of Moo0 File Shredder, a Free File Shredder Program

Moo0 File Shredder is a free file shredder program that can permanently delete one or more files and folders at once.

It works via a simple drag and drop into the program window, similar to the Recycle Bin in Windows.

Moo0 File Shredder can stay on top of all other windows and even suppress its delete confirmation box, meaning you can start shredding files in virtually no time from anywhere on your computer.

This review is of Moo0 File Shredder version 1.23, released June 16, 2019. Please let us know if there's a newer version we need to review.

More About Moo0 File Shredder

Moo0 File Shredder v1.21

Moo0 File Shredder's interface can be adjusted from its regular large size to a smaller one like you see in the image above. Do this by clicking the Minimize button. This makes it much easier to manage if you're using it often.

The data sanitization method can be chosen from Extra Carefully, Into Ashes, Vaporize, and Shred Once, which correspond to DoD 5220.22-M (3 passes), DoD 5220.22-M (7 passes), Gutmann, and Random Data, respectively.

Any of these wipe methods should keep a file recovery program from being able to retrieve any file(s) you decide to wipe.

Once the wipe method is chosen, just drag and drop one or more files right onto the program window, after which you'll be asked to confirm the delete. If you want, you can choose to suppress these confirmations from the View menu.

Some other settings you can change are whether to keep the program floating on top of all other programs, to enable closing the program with a middle wheel click, and to maximize the program with a right click.

Moo0 File Shredder works with Windows 10, Windows 8, Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP, and Windows Server 2003.

Pros & Cons

There are plenty of benefits to using Moo0 File Shredder:

  • Very easy to use
  • Deletes both files and folders
  • Supports drag and drop
  • Minimal interface
  • Can disable confirmation delete prompts

  • Doesn't queue the files you wish to delete

My Thoughts on Moo0 File Shredder

Moo0 File Shredder probably couldn't be any easier to use. Drag and drop is a common method of moving files and folders around in Windows, so to be able to utilize that here is really nice. Also, because you can check the box that says Keep on Top, you can always have instant access to the program no matter what else you're doing on your computer.

One thing I don't like about Moo0 File Shredder is that you can't queue files for deletion like you can with similar file shredder programs. What I mean by this is that when you drag and drop files and folders into Moo0 File Shredder, you're immediately asked to shred them. This is different than with some other files shredders where you can keep a list of these files so you can add some from multiple locations before deciding to start wiping them from the drive.

Overall, though, mostly because of the simplicity of Moo0 File Shredder, it's a great choice for a file shredder.

Before Moo0 File Shredder is installed, the setup program will ask if you'd like to install "additional free tools." You can deselect that option if you want, and the file shredder will still install normally.
