Monster.com: How to Search for Jobs Effectively

Use Monster's search features to find your next job

The Monster website is one of the most useful job search engines on the web, but many users find the site hard to manage. In order to get the most out of Monster, use these search tips to streamline your searches and better target your search results.

Use the Browse Features

Monster has all its major job search criteria laid out on one convenient page. You can get an idea of what you're looking for here and use it to drill down to more specific results.

Use the drop-down menus to specify city, skills, and full or part time. Click on one of the popular Job Titles to see jobs that are only for that job.

Monster also lists job titles and companies alphabetically on its Browse Jobs page. The page also includes browsing options by location and by category, and it includes a list of the most popular jobs and job locations.

Use the Site Map

One of the first things smart searchers should check out when visiting a new site is the site map, and Monster has a good one. You can use it as an ultimate navigation tool for the site. In addition to a Jobs section, it includes a Tools and Advice section for job hunters.

Use the Search Feature

The Search box that is located on the front page of the Monster website is where you can get specific with your job search. Type in an exact job title along with geographic location to see what comes up. After you get the hang of this, you can change around your keywords, choosing a different but similar industry or changing the radius around the location you're willing to work in.

Use the Saved Searches Feature

You need a Monster account to save a search, but you'll want one anyway so prospective employers can view your resume. Once you find a job search that comes up with good job results, you don't have to keep visiting Monster day after day to run the same search.

After searching for jobs on the website, save a search in the Saved Searches section of your account.

Enter your email address and Monster will email you any job listings that meet your search criteria exactly on a daily basis. You can change this interval in your account.
