The Monoprice 10565 5.1 Channel Home Theater speaker system is a budget offering that works well for smaller home theater rooms. It's best-suited for movie listening. It works well for vocal, dialog, and surround effects but tapers off a little at the high frequencies.

It's a good alternative to using a sound bar if you are on a limited budget and want a compact system that will work with just about any room size and decor. The Monoprice subwoofer doesn't match up to Klipsch and EMP Tek subwoofers we compared it to, but it has a deeper bass response and minimal mid-bass boominess compared to others in this price range.

The system finish is in matte black, which works well with most decor.

You can read the full review of the Monoprice 10565 5.1 for more analysis. Here, we'll take a look at the tech details for the system.

To start, here is a look at the entire Monoprice 10565 speaker system, as viewed from the front with the speaker grills on. Starting on the top is the center channel speaker, which is resting on top of the powered subwoofer. The four satellite speakers used for the front and surround channels are shown to the left and right side of the subwoofer.

Next, we move to a closer look at the center and satellite speakers, showing the speaker grills removed, as well as the connections and subwoofer controls.

Shown on top is a front view with the grill on, the center photo is a view with the grill removed, and the bottom photo is a look at the rear, showing ports and connections. The speaker terminals are the spring-loaded type and can be used with pin or bare wire connectors.

The arrangement is different from many that have two midrange/woofer drivers in combination with one or two tweeters. But it performs well as a vocal and dialog anchor.

It can be placed on a table or shelf. It weighs three pounds and the dimensions are 4.3 inches high, 10.2 inches wide, and 4.3 inches deep.

Here are the features and specifications of this speaker as provided by Monoprice:

1. 2-Way Bass Reflex with one 3-inch polypropylene midrange/woofer additionally supported by two rear facing ports, and one 3/4-inc aluminum dome tweeter.

2. Impedance: 8 Ohms

3. Frequency Response: 110Hz-20kHz (+/- 3dB)

4. Sensitivity: 88dB/2.83V/1m.

You can see a front view with the grill on, a view with the grill removed, and a look at the rear, showing the drivers, rear ports, and rear connections. The speaker terminals are the same type used with the center channel speaker.

The satellite speakers provide good left and right soundstage and directional placement of sound effects and the immersive 5-channel listening experience. But some finer details are more subdued.

The satellites weigh 2.9 pounds, and they can be placed on a shelf or table. If you want them wall mounted, that requires purchasing additional hardware. The dimensions are 6.9 inches high, 4.3 inches wide and deep.

Here are the stated features and specifications of this speaker:

1. 2-Way bass reflex design with one 3-inch polypropylene midrange/woofer additionally supported by a rear mounted port, and one 3.4-inch aluminum dome tweeter.

2. Impedance: 8 Ohms

3. Frequency Response: 110Hz-20kHz (+/- 3dB)

4. Sensitivity: 88dB/2.83V/1m

5. Power Handling: 50-150 watts

Here is the final photo in our look at the Monoprice 5.1 Channel Home Theater Speaker System that shows a close-up view of the controls and connections located on the rear of the subwoofer.

Volume Level: This is used to adjust the sound output of the subwoofer in relation to the other speakers.

Low-Pass Filter (Crossover): The low-pass control sets the point at which you want the subwoofer to produce low-frequency sounds, against the ability of the center, main, and surround speakers to reproduce low frequencies. The crossover adjustment provided on this subwoofer is variable from 40 to 150Hz.

Phase: This control matched matches in/out subwoofer driver motion to the satellite speakers. This control can be set at either Normal (0 degrees) or Reverse (180 degrees).

Power Mode Switch: If set to On, the subwoofer remains continuously on. If set to Auto, the subwoofer will start when a low-frequency signal is detected. When set to off, the subwoofer will not respond.

Line-In/Sub-In: This where you plug in the subwoofer LFE or Preamp output from your home theater receiver or AV processor (if only using a single RCA cable, you can use either the R or L input, but the left input is most commonly used in such cases.

Speaker Level Input (also commonly referred to as a Hi-Level Input): This connection option is provided for receivers or amplifiers that do not have an LFE, subwoofer, or a stereo line output. To make the best use of this option, your receiver needs to have front A and B speaker outputs. Use the A speaker connections on your receiver and amplifier for the front left and right speakers, and use the B speaker connections for the subwoofer. This ensures that the main left and right speakers are still connected to the home theater receiver for the mid-range and high frequencies.
