The default password for both versions of the Linksys EA6500 router is admin. As with most passwords, the EA6500 default password is case sensitive. Some Linksys routers don't need a username when you first log in, but the EA6500 has a default username, and it's the same as the password: admin.

The Linksys EA6500 router's default IP address is the same as most Linksys routers:

This device's model number is EA6500, but it is often marketed as the Linksys AC1750 router.

When the Default Password Doesn't Work

At some point during the life of your particular Cisco Linksys EA6500 router, the default password was probably changed, which is a good thing, and you may have forgotten what it was changed to.

No worries, you can just restore the software on the EA6500 to its default state to restore the default password.

How to Restore to Factory Defaults

You usually restore a router using a special button or sequence of actions. Here's how it's done on the Linksys EA6500:

  1. With the router plugged in and powered on, turn it around so that you have full access to the back.

  2. With a paperclip or something else thin and pointy, press down on the Reset button for 5 to 10 seconds and hold it down until the network cable lights flash at the same time.

  3. Remove the power cable from the router for 10 to 15 seconds and then plug it back in.

  4. Give the Linksys EA6500 30 seconds to fully boot back up before continuing.

  5. Make sure all the cables are still attached and then turn the router back around to its normal position.

  6. With the EA6500 reset to factory defaults, you can log in at with the default username and password (both are admin).

Make sure to change the default router password on your EA6500 to something more secure as soon as you're in. Then, use a free password manager so you'll never forget your new password.

At this point, now that the Cisco Linksys EA6500 has been reset, any custom settings you entered into the router have been flushed out and need to be re-entered. This means the wireless network SSID and password are gone, any custom DNS server settings have been removed, and port-forwarding details are gone.

I Can't Access My Router

The EA6500 router is typically accessed through its IP address, which is However, this address can be changed, so if you can't access the Linksys EA6500, you must first find the IP address it's using. It's pretty easy to do so as long as you have access to a computer that's currently connected to the router.
