If you’re in the market for a decent LED desk lamp that won’t break the bank, there are countless options to choose from, including the Lampat LED Desk Lamp. The Lampat is a case of getting what you pay for in terms of the limited range of motion to cheap plastic components. If you can look past that, however, the Lampat is a decent choice for the budget desk lamp shopper with its four color mode options, five brightness levels, and handy touch panel.

Design: Cheap, flimsy, and highly reflective

With a cheaper lamp comes cheaper components. The Lampat uses highly reflective black plastic on every inch of the lamp. It looks and feels far cheaper than pricier steel or aluminum-built lamps. The rotatable arm also feels very flimsy whenever we rotated it—as if we could easily snap it in half if we applied just a bit more pressure. In fact, the instruction manual warns against over adjusting the joints. That said, we liked having a nice cushy foam pad on the bottom of the lamp base to avoid scrapes.

The control panel features six buttons, including four dedicated buttons for each of the four color modes, labeled as Reading, Study, Relax, and Sleep. LED lamps rarely have dedicated buttons for switching to specific color modes. The color mode selected glows with a rather malevolent red, as does the power button when the lamp is connected to power but not turned on. While the 60-minute timer mode is engaged, the power button also blinks red. The Lampat also features five brightness levels, controlled by plus and minus buttons at the top of the panel. We would’ve preferred a slider, but it keeps the panel small, thin, and unobtrusive.

Setup Process: Light and foldable

A small amount of assembly is required to connect the base of the lamp to the arm. The bottom of the arm features a large circular piece that can be unscrewed and removed. The lamp arm can fit into the hole in the base, then be screwed back in. The arm fits solidly into the base while still easily rotating up to 180 degrees with one hand. The lamp base measures 7 by 6.75 by 0.5 inches (HWD).

The base of the arm can rotate up to 40 degrees forward, while the LED lamp head can rotate up to 140 degrees, including neatly folding into itself. The base of the lamp to the top of the LED panel (when horizontal) measures 17 inches. Unfortunately, the lamp head lacks any other kind of rotation, such as tilting it left or right, creating a more limited range of motion that more expensive LED lamps.

Color Temperature and Brightness: Near perfect lighting

Despite its relatively cheap price, the Lampat LED lamp is capable of an impressive array of color modes and brightness levels. Four color modes are available, ranging from a warmer amber-colored 2500K up to a cool blue 5000K and the more natural light of 7000K. The Lampat features a Color Rendering Index of over 90. A CRI of 100 equals perfect natural light. Five brightness levels for each color mode ensures plenty of options for finding the perfect balance for your needs.

Smart Light Options: Memory function for each color made

The Lampat includes a USB port for charging devices such as phones. It’s a very nice feature to have in a budget lamp, preventing the lamp from taking up any extra outlet real estate.

The Lampat also includes a 60-minute sleep timer, as well as a memory function that recalls the last color mode and brightness level before the lamp was powered off. Since each color mode has its own dedicated button, they also each store the last used brightness level. In other words, we could set the Reading level to max brightness and the Study color to about halfway, and flip between the two (or any other color modes), with no further adjustments. This was a neat hidden feature that we were happy to discover.

Price: Solid budget LED lamp

With a price of around $30, the Lampat LED Desk Lamp is one of the cheapest LED lamps you can find. The cheaper price tag makes sense when you take into account the flimsier plastic design. Yet the LED light itself has a solid range of color temperatures and brightness levels, making it a solid budget option if you focus on function over form.

Lampat LED Lamp vs. Ominilight LED Desk Lamp

Most desk lights at that price range will follow the same basic design with a single arm and minimum rotation along with a plastic frame. It mostly comes down to individual aesthetics and lighting options. Some budget lamps may include more robust lighting options, like the Ominilight LED Desk Lamp, which features five color temperatures and seven brightness levels that can be dimmed with a slider. Ultimately, we enjoyed the basic but effective design of the Lampat and the individual buttons for each color mode, which easily save our favorite settings.
