Josh Hawkins is a freelance writer for Lifewire that loves writing about the latest tech and gadgets that help make people’s lives easier.

As an avid gamer, he also enjoys diving deep into the technology that helps bring those kinds of experiences to life. In addition, Josh has thousands of hours of experience exploring VR applications since the release of the Oculus DK2 and has authored multiple reviews focused on VR experiences. Josh found his love for tech through helping various family members understand modern technology and you can usually find him writing about anything that even the most inexperienced tech users might enjoy or find useful.

Josh’s relevant experience includes:

• News, reviews and features for established websites like Shacknews, Prima Games, etc.
• Five years writing guides and how-to content designed around video games and apps.
• Thousands of hours testing games and looking for secrets to help other gamers.
• Working with mobile devices (phones, smartwatches, etc) across all major operating systems, including two years of experience troubleshooting these devices while working within a customer service center.

Josh has multiple years of experience testing and working within computers and laptops/tablets, including both iOS and Windows/Mac OS, under his belt. He's built and upgraded computers for himself and others and has spent many hours troubleshooting tech problems.

My Gear

I run a custom-built Windows PC for most of my work. It includes an AMD Ryzen 7 3700X and an NVIDIA RTX 3080. I also use an OG iPad Pro (it hasn’t let me down yet) as well as a Google Pixel 3a XL. My daily mobile device is an Apple iPhone 11, though, and I love being able to experience both the Android and Apple systems interchangeably. I have all of that previous generation consoles, PS4, Switch, but no Xbox One as I no longer needed it after Xbox Play Anywhere became a thing. I’ll also have a PS5 and Xbox Series S once they become available, and I’m looking forward to seeing how the new consoles stack up against modern PC tech.

Education

Josh received a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Creative Writing for Entertainment from Full Sail University. He’s dabbled in basic coding and UI design and is always looking for the next exciting thing to learn and master.
