GreatCall's Jitterbug prepaid wireless service plans—designed specifically for seniors—offer great, basic calling options without a contract.

With a Jitterbug plan, there are not only no contracts but also zero cancellation fees and no long-distance fees between US numbers. However, the plans differ depending on the phone you will use with it.

Talk, Text, and Data Plans

Jitterbug's individual prepaid wireless plans range from $14.99 per month to $49.99 per month, but that's just for calling minutes. There's an extra charge if you want to add texting or data.

Minutes

  • 200 Minutes: $14.99
  • 600 Minutes: $19.99
  • 1,500 Minutes: $29.99
  • 3,000 Minutes: $39.99
  • Unlimited Talk and Text: $49.99

Texting Options

Unless you buy the unlimited talk/text option for $49.99 per month, there's a separate monthly charge to add texting to your Jitterbug plan:

  • 300 Texts: $3
  • 700 Texts: $6
  • 1,250 Texts: $10
  • 2,500 Texts: $15

Data

The Jitterbug Smart supports data, with any extra data over what you pay for, adding an additional $0.10 per megabyte to the bill. That makes the overage charges come out to around $100 for every extra 1 gigabyte.

Monthly rates are as follows:

  • 40 MB: $2.49
  • 100 MB: $5.00
  • 200 MB: $10.00
  • 500 MB: $15.00
  • 1,000 MB (1 GB): $20.00
  • 2,500 MB (2.5 GB): $30.00

Health & Safety Packages

The calling minutes for both the Jitterbug Flip and the Jitterbug Smart can be had for less money if you opt for one of the Health & Services Packages as well.

With this special package, you not only get cheaper calling minutes—plus the same texting and data options as above—but also round-the-clock access to urgent care doctors and nurses; they're just one button away.

Neither can the Flip nor the Smart delete calls or track steps, but the Flip does support MyWorld ($4 /month) while the Smart does not.

Three packages offer different services. For example, the most inexpensive plan, Basic, excludes Urgent Care, GreatCall Link, Personal Operator, and Product Replacement features. However, the Ultimate plan includes all of those features and more.

  • Basic: $19.99
  • Preferred: $24.99
  • Ultimate: $34.99

The resulting costs for monthly minutes if you purchase one of these plans is shown below.

  • 50 Minutes: $5
  • 600 Minutes: $10
  • 1,000 Minutes: $15
  • 2,000 Minutes: $25
  • Unlimited Talk and Text: $40
