James David Frew

Experience

James had his first introduction to the world of consumer technology as a child in the mid-90s, troubleshooting PCs for family and friends and creating his first HTML-based website with support from his parents. His interest in technology remained through his teenage years and at university while studying for a B.Eng in Mechanical Engineering.

After university, James created his personal blog where, among other things, he began his foray into technology writing. This quickly advanced to more than just a hobby when he joined MakeUseOf as a Staff Writer in 2016.

James specializes in communicating cybersecurity research and concepts and is a campaigner for greater privacy protection in the U.K. James is a proud Android owner, so you'll find him writing how-to guides and articles on all things Android.

As a product reviewer, James can be found on YouTube testing a product to its limits to truly reflect how people use their devices. The videos all accompany his in-depth written reviews.

Education

James graduated from the University of Surrey with a BEng in Mechanical Engineering. He was also a qualified ISO 13485 Lead Auditor.
