The iPad Air 5: Price, Release Date, Specs, and News

Could this be the first OLED iPad?

The current iPad Air (4th generation) was announced in September 2020, and will, like most Apple products, be replaced with an upgraded version. The current prediction is that it'll be equipped with thinner bezels and the same A15 chip as the iPhone 13.

When Will the iPad Air 5 Be Released?

The current estimates are the iPad Air 5th-gen will go into production late this year and arrive in 2022.

Lifewire’s Release Date Estimate

Given production might take place in 2021, a March 2022 release date sounds appropriate. But, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, via MacRumors, it could just as easily be September 2022 since Kuo's estimate (which is often right) is the second half of 2022.

iPad Air 5 Price Rumors

Price is never confirmed until the official word comes from Apple, but we can assume we're looking at a range closely resembles the current iPad Air.

The iPad Air 4 ranges in price from $599 for the 64 GB Wi-Fi only model, to $879 for the 256 GB cellular model. As of right now, we have no reason to suspect a significant sway in price in either direction for the iPad Air 5.

Pre-Order Information

When Apple announced the 4th-gen iPad Air, pre-orders started a month later, followed by shipments a week later. What we can speculate this same timeline will take place with this iPad.

iPad Air 5 Features

It's still too early to comment on the features coming to the iPad Air 5. Aside from the expected hardware changes described below, most of what makes an iPad's features are its operating system functions.

iPadOS 15 is arriving in late 2021, so as long as this iPad isn't released before next year's iPadOS version, then it will adopt all the features of iPadOS 15.

iPad Air 5 Specs and Hardware

According to DigiTimes in early 2021, Apple has plans to adopt OLED displays in at least some iPad models. That report claims it's an iPad with a 10.9" screen using with OLED technology Since the iPad Air 4 has a screen of that size, it only made sense that we'll see the same screen size, with OLED, in the iPad Air 5.

However, a more recent report claims that Apple won't release its first OLED iPad until 2023 or 2024. That year, according to that report, we'll get two OLED iPads, in 11-inch and 12.9-inch sizes.

Another rumor we've seen says the iPad Air 5 will be based off the 2021 iPad Pro, which likely means the design and size will match the smaller 2021 iPad Pro. The iPad Air 5 is also said to have an A15 Bionic chipset, four stereo speakers, 5G, thinner bezels, and a dual-lens camera setup.

Below are the specs we expect/want to see in the iPad Air 5. They're based on the 4th-gen iPad Air, but we'll update them as we learn more about this upgraded iPad.
