Many dating apps are free to use, but have found interesting ways to get users to pay for a better online dating experience. One new feature on the popular dating app Bumble is Spotlight, which users can purchase to increase their chances of getting matches. Here’s a rundown on how to use Bumble Spotlight.

What is Bumble Spotlight

Bumble is free to use, but daters can pay for coins to unlock special features within the app. Bumble Spotlight is one such feature, allowing users to pay for their profile to be more visible to prospective dates in their area.

Bumble Spotlight is similar to Tinder's Boost feature, as it allows users to pay to make their Tinder profiles more visible to prospective dates for 30-minutes.

Bumble has its own Boost feature, but it's a weekly or monthly subscription. In addition to making your profile more visible, Bumble Boost allows users to view people who have already swiped right on their profile and to rematch with expired matches. It also adds an extra 24-hours to the time users have to send an introductory message, and allows users to add more detailed filters to get prospects more specific to their tastes.

How to Use Bumble Spotlight

A Bumble Spotlight costs two coins and will showcase your profile more prominently for 30-minutes. Other users won’t know when you’ve purchased a Bumble Spotlight, but you'll see stars at the top of your own profile when you have the feature enabled.

You can buy 5 coins for $7.99, 15 for $19.99, or 30 for $34.99, plus tax.

  1. Open Bumble, then tap the cog icon in the upper left corner to the app's settings.

  2. Tap Spotlight at the bottom left.

  3. If you don’t have coins, you must purchase them. You can purchase coins with a credit card or via mobile payment services like Google Wallet or Apple Pay.

  4. Once you've bought coins, you can confirm your Spotlight purchase, which will deduct two coins from your account.

Do I Need to Use Bumble Spotlight?

Deciding to use Bumble Spotlight is completely a personal choice. If you find you’re not getting as many matches as you’d like, testing out the Spotlight feature isn’t a bad option, and it isn’t something you have to commit to long term. If you already get a lot of matches, using Bumble Spotlight may not be necessary.

There are also many other ways to make your profile more appealing to prospective dates. You can add images to your profile that are clear and high quality, or add a catchy introduction to your profile. You can add additional details to your profile, such as likes and dislikes, favorite foods, favorite places, goals in life, etc. These may show you have things in common with other users, making you more likely to show up in other members’ feeds naturally.

When Is the Best Time to Use Bumble Spotlight?

According to Bumble, the best time to use Spotlight is Sundays between 8 p.m. and 10 p.m. This is supposedly when the most people are on the app swiping.
