Chromebooks are designed with the internet in mind. You can still get a lot done on a Chromebook, including printing any documents you need hard copies of, but things don't always work the way you might expect.

Before you can print from a Chromebook, you need to make sure you have your printer set up, and you need to connect your Chromebook to your network.

What to Do If You Have Trouble Printing From Your Chromebook

Most problems with printing from a Chromebook have to do with configuration, connectivity, or Google Cloud Print issues. If you followed the instructions above but were unable to print, try these troubleshooting tips:

  1. Make sure you selected the correct printer:
    1. With the print screen open, select Change, then make sure you chose the correct printer.
    2. If the printer doesn't appear on the list, make sure the printer is on, connected to your network, and has been assigned a valid IP address.
  2. Check your printer's internet connection:
    1. If the printer is connected via Wi-Fi, try moving it closer to your router, or removing obstructions.
    2. Try connecting via ethernet if possible.
    3. Open Chrome on a different computer and try printing again. If you're still unable to print, then suspect it's a problem with the printer's connection to the network.
  3. Sign into the correct Google account:
    1. Your Chromebook must be signed in to the same Google account you used to set up your printer.
    2. If you use a different Google account on your Windows or Mac computer, and you're unable to switch accounts in Chrome, download Chrome Canary, log in using the correct Google account, and use it to set up your printer.
  4. Make sure your Windows or Mac computer is on:
    1. If you don't have a cloud-ready printer, you can only print from your Chromebook if your Windows or Mac computer is on.
    2. The computer you need to turn on is the computer you originally used to set up your printer with Google Cloud Print.
  1. Try deleting and re-adding your printer:
    1. On the computer you originally used to set up Google Cloud Print, navigate to chrome://devices.
    2. Select Disconnect printers.
    3. Select Add printers.
    4. Make sure you select the correct printer to add.

If none of these tips work, you may need to contact Google or the manufacturer of your printer for further assistance.
