Is the iPhone Mail text too small for you to read? Maybe it's way too big and you want to make it much smaller. Fortunately, iPhone Mail can enlarge tiny fonts automatically (or shrink the bigger fonts) and make your email experience a lot more legible.

While you can easily magnify a message's text and images, it's only useful for occasionally zooming in and not so great if you need to do it every time you want to read an email.

These steps are only relevant for iPhones running an iOS version prior to iOS 4. If you have anything newer (which is likely), see How to View Text With Larger Type in iOS Mail and Other Apps.

Make iPhone Mail Use a Minimum Text Size

To define a minimum text size for messages in iPhone Mail:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Navigate to Mail, Contacts, Calendars (or Mail in some older versions) and then Minimum Font Size.

  3. Tap the desired size.

  4. You can now exit Settings.
