It's Easy to Make an Event Private in Google Calendar

When You Share, They Don't Have to See Everything Scheduled

Sharing your personal calendar with your best friend was a fabulous idea — until it isn't. In some ways, your calendar is like your personal diary. You might have things going on that you don't want her to know about: For example, maybe you've scheduled a surprise birthday party, you need to remind yourself to buy a gift, or you're going somewhere you'd rather visit alone. Fortunately, Google Calendar allows you to share a calendar as a whole but hide individual events from people of your choosing.

How to Hide a Single Event in Google Calendar

To make sure an event or appointment is not visible on a shared calendar in Google Calendar:

  1. Double-click the desired appointment.

  2. Select Private under Privacy.

  3. If Privacy is not available, make sure the Options box is open.

  4. Click Save.

Note that all other owners of the calendar (i.e., people with whom you share the calendar and whose permission is set to either Make Changes to Events or Make Changes and Manage Sharing) can still see and edit the event. Everybody else will see "busy" but no event details.
