Roku has been in the streaming device business for a long time, and certain older hardware no longer works with Netflix. If you're worried about buying a Roku that doesn't support Netflix, keep reading to find out how to tell whether or not a Roku device works with Netflix. How to Tell if Your Roku Works With Netflix Netflix doesn't support some older Roku hardware, which means there's a chance you won't be able to stream Netflix using your Roku. This was a direct result of Roku ending support for certain older hardware. Since Roku no longer provides updates for those devices, Netflix is unable to keep their app up to date. Devices affected by this end of service include both first and second generation Roku units. That means if your Roku was manufactured prior to 2011, it probably won't work with Netflix. Affected Roku devices that no longer work with Netflix include: Roku HD, HD-XR, SD, XD, XDS, and also the Netgear-branded Roku XD and XDS units. If you have a third generation or later Roku device that was built after 2011, it should still work with Netflix. However, that may change in the future if Roku stops supporting older hardware again and Netflix is forced to follow suit.
