Whether you want to save a particularly funny text message or you need to make sure you don't lose track of important information, one of the easiest ways is to forward the text to your email account.

You can forward texts to your email address on the iPhone without any third-party apps.

Messages are sent as plain text, without any indication of which participant said what. Images, video, and text can also be forwarded in this way.

The recipient should look for an email with the format [yourphonenumber]@[serviceprovider].com

When you forward the text to email, it isn't formatted. The email may have one or more attachments separated by file type. The text is in one file unless an image or video is included, in which case the text is broken into segments from before and after the image or video.

Not all Android devices have this feature. On some Android devices, you can select multiple messages at the same time, while on others you can't. The SMS application also varies from provider to provider, but the Google Play store has several third-party messaging apps including Handcent and ChompSMS that make forwarding texts easy.

Other apps automatically forward your texts to a pre-established email address with no prompting on your part. If you want to ensure your messages are saved so you can refer to them later, look into one of these apps.

One of the most popular of these is Auto Forward SMS for Android available at the Amazon Appstore. It forwards all texts from your phone to your email, or just those from specific messages. The app also allows you to forward texts with specific keywords or send a notification when your battery is low or you miss a call.
