You are presented with a selection of matches you can browse through. You will also see a sentence that defines your default search criteria. You can change and refine the search criteria by clicking the Advanced Filters icon and selecting your preferences. 02 of 03 Refine Your Search Criteria Your match preferences generate a search algorithm that sorts the best possible matches from OkCupid's database of users. You have several categories you can modify, and each of these has more specific preferences beneath them. LooksBackgroundAvailabilityPersonalityVicesQuestionsMore To make a change, click the preference category you want to refine. "Preferences" include height, smoking and drinking activities, religion, astrological signs, education, job, income, languages, and diet preferences, among others. The "More" category is a catchall for preferences such as education, kids, and pets, as well as a search field that you can use to enter specific keywords you're looking for in other users' profiles. The "Questions" category lets you choose from OKCupid's many questions to narrow your results based on other people's responses to those same questions. However, this category is limited to users who purchase an OKCupid A-List membership. Preferences are set in a variety of ways. Height preference, for example, is set as a range using drop-downs for a minimum and maximum. Other preferences are simple to checkboxes or sliders. Personality traits are defined by clicking an up or down arrow to indicate whether each trait is important (up) or unimportant (down). When you're done, click the Search button. If you want to make it easier to search again, click the Save button before searching to save these settings. 03 of 03 Search Results Your search results are displayed in a grid below your search preferences. You will see snapshot details of each person, such as their username, age, and location, as well as a profile picture. If a user is logged in, a green Online icon appears at the bottom of their profile picture. You will also see OKCupid's assessment of how well your personality matches the person. There are two assessments, Match and Enemy, that each has a percentage next to them. The higher the percentage, the stronger the person rates in that assessment. (Enemy means you disagreed on certain questions or differed on their importance.) Hovering over a profile changes the assessment section into a Like button. Click this and the person will be notified that you liked their profile.
