How to Get Gmail Support

Use Gmail Help or post in the Gmail Help Forum

While Gmail normally runs smoothly with few hiccups, that's not always the case. The Gmail Help pages and Gmail Help Forum are two official ways Google provides help for Gmail users.

If you're having troubles accessing or using Gmail, or have a question about how to do something in Gmail, you can post in the Gmail forum or read Google's help articles. Some other reasons to get Gmail support is if your emails don't look normal, you're unable to send mail, or you see strange errors, among other issues.

Gmail provides a separate place to suggest new features or improvements, and to report issues with Gmail. The help resources below are more for self-help and reaching out to other community members.

Read Gmail Help Articles

Gmail Help is a collection of articles that walk you through how to fix common Gmail issues.

Before reading through Gmail Help, check the Gmail status webpage. It's possible that the problem is widespread and Google is already aware of it, in which case there isn't much you can do.

  1. Select the general area of your problem.

For example, if you get an error message when trying to log into Gmail, go to Manage your Gmail account > Sign in or out > Sign in to Gmail.

  2. If available, click the tab that corresponds with the platform you were using when you ran into the problem: Computer, Android, or iPhone & iPad.

  3. Follow the steps Google provides to address your problem.

In some cases, you might see a "Contact us" link near the bottom of the page. Click it if the help docs weren't enough to fix the Gmail problem, and you'll be taken to a form you can fill out to contact Gmail Support.

Visit the Gmail Help Forum

Direct Gmail support isn't always available, and the troubleshooting steps you find on Google Help might not be enough, depending on the problem you're having with Gmail.

Something else you can do to get Gmail support is raise an issue in the official Gmail Help Forum, where dedicated Gmail helpers and engineers roam.

  1. Sign in with your Google account if you aren't already logged in.

If you can't access Gmail, and therefore can't log in to your Google account, the Google Help Forum has troubleshooting steps for that.

  2. Enter a few keywords about your Gmail problem in the search bar at the very top of the screen, and then review the search responses. You can also scan the current and recent ongoing help conversations to see if the problem has already been covered.

  3. Start a new Gmail forum thread with the NEW TOPIC button on the top right of the page if you don't find anything related to your specific Gmail issue.

If this is your first time in the Gmail Help Forum, you might be prompted to register and read the site guidelines before posting to the forum.

  4. Be sure to check the box next to Email me discussion activities to stay on top of any new replies to your new thread.
